Worth fixing a printer which won't take in paper?

I've got a hp psc 1210 all-in-one printer which won't take in paper...HP said they'd charge me $400 to take a look at it and diagnose the problem. Do you think it's worth fixing?

I guess the problem might be the rollers in which case I can't fix it myself...could it be anything else?

Many thanks.

Not worth fixing unless you see it as an entertaining DIY project.

Had a similar problem with an HP LJ 1300, and decided it wasn't worth to fix since brand new printers are only a few hundred dollars now (Xerox, Samsung, etc).

Nowadays they're so cheaply built that it's not worth the money and effort to fix, but that's also why they break down so quickly! Just give your's away to a recycler and save some house/office space.

When I was in Viet Nam I took a printer in to the local authorized repair facility and had a dirt cheap repair done, on a machine that would have been tossed back home. I also took my "unrepairable" Dell laptop in and had it fixed by a local shop for about $70, including parts not available from Dell in the US. If the local HP repair facility is being outrageous, see if you can find a local non-affiliated shop and see what they have to say.

Many thanks for replies. Turned out the problem was because the ink cartridge needed changing...(no, there was no error message which had advised me that). Fyi the company which Fortress uses to provide its "extended warranty" provided me a cheaper quote than HP to take a look and diagnose.
