Best Baby Car Seat

ORIGINAL POST

Could I please ask your opinions on best car seat for our baby. We had a great one in Sydney that was a good lying down position when very young, and can be reversed to face front on when old enough, just can't remember the name of the brand.

The current one we have (combination with pram)does not lie down enough and his neck is kinked and it's just not working at all for us or our baby, he is just not comfortable and it's a nightmare trying to get him in and out.

Are there ones out there with the harness that comes over the top or are they all strapped with the seatbelt only? we are going out to buy one this weekend and would like to do a bit of research beforehand.

Thanks in advance.

0-6 months. The type with a handle. We had a Graco and it was really good. but that brand isn't so strong in HK.

0-48 months. The type you mount, first facing back, then reverse. Britax Marathon for us. Our kids like sleeping in them just fine.

For getting baby in and out, one thing we always did was fold the handle back. That way there was nothing in the way.

Harness over the top? The ones I have seen have the buckle on a crotch strap, and two straps over the shoulders that clip at the buckle and continue to the sides as belt straps. Very easy to get on and off.

Thanks expatguy, we will check out those two on the weekend.

i don't think i was clear about the harness. I actually meant the harness to hold the entire seat in. so the seatbelt goes through the actually frame of the carseat, but you can also have a harness that comes from a bolt attached to either the backrest area of the car that holds everything more secure. Does that make sense?

We use a Maxi Cosi Priori but only once the baby can sit up unsupported (~8-9mos), depends on your baby. This car seat only faces forward, but it also reclines to 3 positions if I remember correctly. Our baby loves this seat and goes to sleep as soon as the car is moving.

I see what you mean now. Well the Britax Marathon is very flexible. It supports ISOFIX and belt mounting (forward and backward facing. The whole bolt on the backrest can be either "Swedish method" or "Australian method". The Marathon supports both but I have never tried that stuff.

Most babies can sit up unsupported much earlier than that. Like 4-5 months.

Forward facing car seats aren't really a good option until the child is at the very least a year. The neck isn't strong enough before then to handle expected impact forces and whiplash.

Thanks again! Think we will search out the Britax Marathon. I don't suppose anyone can now tell me the best places to buy these products. I know B2B and Toys R Us stock a fair bit, but is there anywhere else that stock alot of these sort of products?

Ironically in light of your last post, you can find the Marathon at B2B. ;)

BTW it's not exactly lightweight so if you don't have your own car... We don't but we already had the seats when we came to HK.

Thanks axptguy, we'll checkit out tomorrow. If we have to carry it plus the bub, it would only be a short distance, like up to our apartment or do the doctors which is just up an escalator. But thanks for the tip, obviously the lighter the better.

Cheers!
