Yasmin pill - feedback?

Just wondering if anyone's on the Yasmin pill and what your feedback is on that. I've been on another brand before, stopped a few years ago and am thinking of getting back on the pill. The brand I had been taking before isn't available in HK, which is why I'm looking for a new one.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I took it for years with no problem. My doctor when I started recommended it for having the fewest side-effects. However, after about 5 years I started to have mood swings and weight gain so my doctor here recommended I switch a few months ago. I take one now that's much cheaper and it's fine too (can't remember the name). I think Yasmin is a good brand but try it out for a few months and see how you feel. Keep a monthly log of side effects if you are really interested. Good luck!

I had been off the pill for about 3 or 4 years as the last time I was on the pill I was terribly depressed. Thought I'd give it another try and was only on it for about 3 months. Very very emotional, always crying, the first month was terrible. Maybe I'm just not meant to be on the pill, but I had a bad experience with Yasmin. Good luck.

I tried all pills you can imagine! Just name them, I tried! I even tried the patch and the nuva ring.

The only pill that worked for me was Yasmin. I took it for 2 years and had no problem at all.

But I believe you should talk to your doctor. What works for me might not work for you and vice versa...

I took it for 3 years, no side effects at all, period come on time, no worry. In fact, some pharmacists told me it has loss weight effect. Not sure whether it is true or not, I can eat almost the same amount of my boyfriend, still relatively slim. Somehow, I link it to the pills.

Yasmin has a mild diruretic effect (makes you pass urine) so you lose a bit of weight. However it has only a mild effect, but if you have any heart or kidney conditions, or have any reason to suspect you may have an electrolite imbalance, you need to see your doctor first.

I was on Yasmin for 5 years and developed chronic vaginitis. I suggest you talk to your doctor first.

i've never used yasmin cause of the negative feedback i've read from people on it.

i'm on Harmonet since the dosage is lower; quite similar dosage as Alesse since they're made from the same company. I've been on it for about half a year. I've had weight gain, most of the weight going to my boobs (yeay!). Very mild mood swings but that might be caused by the boyfriend, and my periods have been quite regular and light.

But of course, check with ur doctor to see what dosage is appropriate for you.

For the record, my teenage daughter took Yasmin and experienced a sudden attack of difficulty with breathing, such that she was hospitalized for a day or so. It was the doctors that singled out the pill as a possible cause (and that's where I learned she was even on the pill!). The sypmtoms were not asthmatic, just that her chest was very clamped down such that she had to gasp very hard to get air. A friend of hers had a similar experience, who was also taking Yasmin at the time.

My daughter went on to take Mervellon after that and did not experience any such breathing difficulties. However, she did feel depressed, as did I, taking the sister pill Mercillon.

I have also since learned that there are some law suits against the manufacturers of Yasmin.

It seems Yasmin has been fine for some - but this post could help some of you pinpoint what could be the cause of 'breathing attacks'.

Contraception is such a drag!

I know this is an old thread, but I recently had a pulmonary embolism (blood clots in my artery) and ended up in the ICU for two weeks in Hong Kong. This was potentially caused by Yaz/Yasmin, which I have recently found out has a higher rate of causing blood clots than any other pill.

I was wondering if any other women in Hong Kong had similar experiences? I'm interested in getting in touch, please feel free to PM me.
