If a bomb had gone off in CWB, it would be in the news. No way to cover that up.

As for a bomb scare, well I think that would be in the news too unless it started less than an hour ago.

At this point, it seems like an unfounded rumor. Easy stuff to start on a day like this. There was also that Air China plane from Japan that had to turn back.

I think so too, I have checked every English local and global news source including RTHK and they update breaking news and found nothing. What a load of rubbish, what kind of troll would start a rumour like that for no reason.

My guess is a troll with a few drinks inside the belt being egged on by some friends in the same condition.

Its more than one person saying it, one person said bomb found in CWB near sogo and there was a controlled explosion, another person saying CWB MTR is closed. WTF

Interesting.

This may have been a bomb. It may also have been a forgotten bag. My guess security is a bit extra twitchy right now.

Doubt it was a bomb, could have been, not sure how you detonate something if there aren't any explosives in the first place. Surely you don't send your own explosives in, if there is something there in the first place wouldn't that create a much larger explosion.

Why should I have to apologise to anyone for doubting what they have to say when at the point at which it was said it was unsubstantiated?? Particularly when the source itself is a website which is off dubious quality in terms of information it supplies. There is an implied apology when I source the substantiated version of the story within the same thread and I am under no obligation to anyone to make it an explicit apology. It is hardly rumour mongering when you ask for confirmation of something you have heard which is unsubstantiated and then include a caveat.

If you wish to start apologising to an anonymous internet trolls whose information you doubt, then please feel free to do so. Personally speaking, I don't see the need to apologise for taking something I read on the internet with a pinch of salt.

Actually you do "send your own explosives in". The only safe way of dealing with, say, an unexploded grenade or shell is to blow it up. Defusing is in most cases just too dangerous. Same with a suspected bomb. Far safer to blow it up than to start opening something that may be boobytrapped. Do you want to be that bomb disposal guy? ;)

Sure, you will blow up the original package as well, but you've had time to evacuate people, put up barriers, so you're only really endangering property.

Well the news reported they Controlled the "explosion" "**In a controlled manner"**. Hm.....IS Media hiding something? We cannot rule out the fact that the festive olympic event can have its downfall.... This is one of them... Security is not as tight as it was suppose to be (in my eyes at least )... THe Cheif of police still claims HK is one of the safest... but with what happened yesterday and with the media not giving enough information... there is a reason why we need to be on the alert... some people say it was a false alarm... that could go a LONG way.... use your imagination... no matter how extreme it can be... ANYTHING is possible right???? Safe is not always "SAFE"...I just want to stress that we cannot outrule the possibility that danger is still around corner...

joeyclaris7, we can't all go around being "scared and alert". That's what happened in the US after 9/11 and let me tell you it made some things including air travel extremely tedious without making life any safer.

"Well the news reported they Controlled the "explosion" "**In a controlled manner"**. Hm.....IS Media hiding something?"

"controlled explosion" is a common procedure. Nothing fishy about it in itself.

"Security is not as tight as it was suppose to be (in my eyes at least )..."

How should it be tighter?

"THe Cheif of police still claims HK is one of the safest... but with what happened yesterday and with the media not giving enough information..."

These things happen all the time. Sure, it was during the Olympic opening day, but most likely it was just a forgotten bag.

".I just want to stress that we cannot outrule the possibility that danger is still around corner..."

Oh give it a rest...

It's been reported as a home made low grade pyrotechnic. i.e. a crap firework or flare. Probably left by mistake.

I agree with the above, after 9/11 things went too far without giving any extra safety. Personally growing up in London we saw many alerts, some very, very real back in 70's and 80's. But we just got on with life. If you let it throw you into panic mode you'll be running from your own shadows.

The likelihood of dying in a car accident is way higher than that of dying in a terrorist attack. Anything can happen but unless there is more compelling evidence of concerted terrorist threat I think I'll direct my efforts towards making sure my kids are safely strapped in.

Give it a rest. You can hide in your house if you want. But that's no life.

You are right. anything is possible, there could be an asteroid on its way to earth this very second which will wipe out all biological life on this planet when it eventually hits. The Sun when it dies is going to expand to the outer reaches of the solar system an incinerate every planet within its reach. Neither of these two likely hoods is going to stop me from getting out of bed in the morning or make me feel anymore worried then I already am. There could be a terrorist attack in Hong Kong, there are however far more high profile target cities just now and when was the last time you heard of an attack in this city. If I correctly remember, never.
