Partner's birthday is coming up and I would like to surprise him with a trip somewhere but would like to keep it under $700USD total for the both of us. Looked into Sanya but flight is a bit much plus hotel. We've done most of SE Asia but does anyone know of any nice, remote islands off Hong Kong that are good for weekend getaways and slightly romantic as well, and that you could take a ferry to and not fly?
Or any other gift ideas would be great! Thanks a lot!

Thanks, but was looking for something more quiet, romantic.. perhaps a little more original and not somewhere you would expect to spend a weekend. I heard there were lots of remote islands off Hong Kong (aside from the well known Lamma and Lantau Island) that you take a ferry to that have still kept their Chinese heritage and are not developed at all. If anyone has any more info on those that'd be great, thanks.

Hi, Sanya flights are really quite cheap - how many days are you planning? The flights seem around $150 or so US each? That is not much out of your total US$7,000 budget? cant imagine you can get anywhere else cheaper than that? And I hear Ritz and Marriottt in Sanya are just lovely.

I went to the Gold Coast in hong kong to the hotel there, was actually quite nice, although the beautiful weather when i went was certainly a plus! The beach nearby wasn't ideal, but they do have a nice pool and a delicious buffet ; ) Didn't explore the area outside the hotel grounds since I was only there for a day or two, so I'm not sure if it would be any good for a more extended stay. Perhaps look it up and see?
