Anyone got any recommendations for places to stay that have good kids facilities? Prefer resort hotel or beach front bungalow type things. We would like to be in an are where there are opportunities to get out of the hotel and see stuff around the area too if possible.

intercontinental was the best for kids - loved it - but you cant really just walk out of the hotel and go exploring - taxi - 15-20 min at least.

For 5 star resort:

I would suggest Bali Hyatt at Sanur, you will be entitle to use the facility at Grand Hyatt in Nusa Dua as well (free shuttle bus) . Bali Hyatt is mature, beautiful garden and has lovely staff. It is a sunrise beach, beautiful and quiet, and along sanur area, walking distance, full of cozy little cafe (Cafe Batu Jimbar is my favorite) and of course art/craft shopping. Grand Hyatt Nusa Dua is luxury resort, over 1 km strecth beach , huge (7 pool!) and great facilities for children, can shop & dine at Nusa Dua complex.

Intercon is very good and child friendly, great beach at Jimbaran. If you want to explore around Bali, or just local, I use a very good driver, who knows the area, he is a very safe driver, with large jeep type car, with seat belts, he also has good english, and will not '' drag'' you around to places, i.e. shopping etc.. A short beach walk from Intercon, you have a great selection of beach restaurants, mainly seafood, and if you want to splurge the Four Seasons is walkable, as is the new small Italian place near Temple Hill Resort. Of course the Intercon has good restaurants and services. Send me message if you would like the Driver's name and contact details.

enjoy you stay in Bali.

Hello.

If you want something a little more authentically Balinese then head to Suli in Ubud. I was there with my 3 and 5 year old and had a fantastic time. See photos and trailer at www.thelittletravelers.com. They had lots of local crafts for the kids to do and a group of dancers that performed a few times a day that were SOOO friendly. They would come visit the girls each day and take them to the pool and put make up on them to look like a dancer. I can't say enough fantastic things about this place. A real taste of Bali.

Four Seasons Jimbaran. Read the reviews on Tripadvisor. Small kids club and pool right on the beach, dedicated kid's club staff who speak several languages and welcome all the children warmly. All have worked there for 10+ years. The same staff also offer complimentary babysitting from 7pm to midnight in your villa. Top notch service you would expect from a Four Seasons; it's not a family hotel (emphasis on the kids) just serves families exceptionally well.

I don't want to sound negative, but I feel obliged to tell you, in read in a magazine about a family in Australia who went on hols to bali (they told the story), and stayed in a 5 star hotel with child minding, and in the article they said is was all hushed up, but thier 2 yr old had been sexually abused by one of the childcare staff...they said that gave the child a one on one carer as to her age, but found that the staff member gave her to someone else to mind while she was off doing something else (a man) and anyway she came back with a STD and was very ill, and obviously traumatised terribly too. It was so awful to read this and I was so shocked it was a 5 star hotel too. I don't know which one but just wanted to warn you as I read it and felt ill...so please just be careful!!!
