Hi, Can anyone advise on a place for good cheap frames & eye tests.
I've heard that they're cheap here in Hong Kong
Thanks

Look for A-Look stores - they are cheap. They treat them as fashion items that you would want to change frequently. There used to be a store near the Sogo crossing at Causeway bay, on the opposite side to Sogo. Don't know if it's still there.

Thanks for your advice but can anyone give me an indication of what to expect to pay vs NZ or Aus. The $7k F355 mentioned is not cheap.
Thanks again

You might want to try Lenscrafters, formely known as The Optical Shop. They have many branches around town. Call their Prince's Bldg. branch at tel. 2523-8385 to get idea of fees and locations. They have registered optometrists on board and sell frames/lenses. Hope this helps. The Communtiy Advice Bureau (CAB)

I find the lenscrafters to be rather on the expensive side. You could check with Polyvision:

Comprehensive eye checks are around HK$ 400, I found their service excellent and got my glasses there as well.

I use Fox Optical near Stanley Street escalator. Can do eye tests for free then my son's latest glasses which are Nike cost 2k all in so not too bad. Next day service. Price ranges from non-designer cheap end to high end so its up to you how much you want to spend.

From feedback from my siblings, a good pair of glasses costing about HK$1000 would cost about double that in New Zealand.

definitely A-Look for extremely cheap sets. Mine were HK$250 for exam, lens and frame. Thats about $35 AUS I believe...but you get what you pay for...paint coming off the frames after 1 year, lenses (plastic) scratch easily
