Hi there, I'm travelling out of Hong Kong with my little one. Do I need any other documentation other than her passport and birth cert for immigration. Is there anything I need to get stamped in her passport? She was born here in Hong Kong. I'm not a permanent resident, just a resident. Can I go thru the resident channel or do I have to take her in and out as a visitor?
Also I'm travelling alone without my husband. Will anyone get funny that my surname (maiden name) is different to my daughters?

Thanks Cara, will get my hubby to do a letter! I haven't applied for a dependent visa for her! Whoops, I didn't realise I needed to. I'll have to look at the immigration website to see if I can find out more!

I too have a different surname to my daughter so I always carry a copy of her birth cert and of my marriage licence. In 5 yrs I have been asked for it only in the USA but it is good to have anyway.

Ok, I'm now confused. I called immigration, they said that as long as I have the white permit piece of paper it's ok (ID235B form). I've looked at this tonight and it says that my daughter is permitted to remain until 30 Apr 2009. The immigration officer said after this date, I just apply for extension of stay. I also checked my daughter's passport as I took her back to the UK last Dec. Seems from the passport stamp that she's only was allowed to stay 180 days? Is this normal even though the permit says otherwise?
So does everyone who's not a permanent residency apply for the dependent visa for their children, even if they have permit to stay?
Is it easy to apply for the dependent visa?
Thanks!!

If I remember correctly from when my kids were born here, they got a white form that allowed them entry into and out of HK once without a visa, after that we got them a dependants visa, renewable every 2 years. When they were 5 and 3 they got their PR when we did.
