Our 2YO will soon start going to kindy by himself and I'm curious to know how most working parents handle the transition period. Did you take a week off and just focus on getting your traumatized little ones settled? Did you take turns taking days off? Did you ask your helper to take them?
And once they are settled and happy going to school, who takes your child to school and picks them up each day? Do you notice any change in your child's reaction according to who does the school run?
Thanks so much for your advice.

My son is also starting kindergarten this Friday. I am quite anxious, but I have been through this with my elder daughter 2 years ago.
I think the school has a transition period.... our school doesn't allow the parents more than 1 day to be in the classroom. Yes, you just have to suck in your breath, and walk out that door after you drop him off. Crying is part of it, and it's very normal. Crying... for me too ! I remember I cried when I saw her crying for me when I left...... anyways, you will survive, and so will he!
So I don't think you need to take off the whole week, a couple - 3 days would be good... he will be happy to see you when you pick him up afterschool.
I always try to drop off my kids at school, and try to pick them up at least 2-3 times afterschool.... you manage to understand the school, and know the teacher, and is able to follow up his progress much better by doing so.
good luck !

All of the above I think. You must think positive and not let the child know that you have words like "traumatized" running around inside your head. If you make the transition too long you let him know you are worried.
Note that while the first week may be just fine, which the second week can bring a lot of tears. Be gentle but firm.

In our case that would be me, the father, but that doesn't help you a lot since you are both working. However I see no problem with the helper picking up the child.
