hi..my boy starts to wake in middle on night and have difficulty falling back to sleep. he ended up staying awake for 2-3 hours. i've tried cutting his nap to no more than 1.5 hour, it helped initially. but last nite, he awake again for 2hours.
any reasons? i know he is teething...that may be one reasons. wondering whether any possible suggestions to let him sleep better at night.
also, at his age, what long should his afternoon nap be?

All children are different so not sure if you can actually define how long his afternoon nap should be. All I can say is at that age my boy used to only sleep around 45minutes (much to my dismay) but a friends bub used to easily go 2-3 hours and still seep through the night. However, if he was previously sleeping through the night and not waking up, then maybe teething is the cause of the wake ups and no need to change the afternoon nap time.
For my bub everytime he goes through another bout of teething I know that for a period of one to two weeks he will wake up most nights and it can easily be several hours before he wil go back to sleep, even when cradled in his Mums arms. Giving him a dose of calpol before bedtime (when teething !) sometimes helps, but not always.
After the teething bout has calmed down he will go back to sleeping through the night again. We don't change the length of afternoon nap to allow for the middle of the night wake ups and he definitely copes better with the lack of sleep than his parents!
