I know you prefer to keep the think forum as a delayed forum so comments can be moderated and threads don't disintegrate into juvenile delinquency as they invariably do when people discuss contentious issues. fair enough your board appreciate the logic.


I was thinking though, that in the run up to the US election in November that there might be one single thread in that forum devoted to the topic that is live up until the election is finished, just a single one. I understand that having one single thread might be too narrow, there are many issues that people might wish to disccuss, but if we keep it to the differences between the two candidates that would be great. There is a discussion in think at the moment which is very interesting and it would be a lot better if people could respond in real time.


I appreciate you might be a little cynical and perhaps might not want to change what works for you, perhaps you could begin the thread with your rules clearly outlined and everyone who posts expected to obey. If someone even remotely becomes personal I for one would be very trigger happy with the report button and a single live thread would not be that difficult for you to moderate.


Personally I would like to hear what people outside of America either expats or foreign nationals think of what is happening as it is happening and I think this would be a great forum to do that. If you feel disinclined to do it so far in advance OK, but at least on election day a live thread would be immensely helpful, people post new information that sometimes the networks haven't started carrying from the sources they visit or are emailed or get from other boards. Last election I was on lice bed, and though it had its issues after that experience I found the message board format is an absolute must have, coupled with on line and network news, it was both exciting and fascinating. I do hope it is something you would consider, the outcome affects almost everyone to some degree whether they admit it or not.

DB - the thread posted by innocence seems to be drawing a lot of attention and debate re: the election so I think we have our designated election thread.


As for allowing comments to go live on that thread I am sure the moment that we allow that the insults will start to fly. I have already had to dismiss a couple of pending comments as they were over the top. I think we'll end up with a more reasonable discussion if we stay with the current mode.

Fair enough, politics is probably the most contentious of them all, I am surprised in a delayed thread people for a second think personal insults will be posted. Surely not one of the regulars on there.
