do you think it's a good idea to put a 3 year old in school or just keep him at home and get him to play with other kids and I'll read to him?

i think it's up to how you and your kid feels. i think it's ok to keep him at home if you are both happy to be there. i put my kid in pre-school (ie going on his own without me) at 2 yrs 4 mths and i regret it. i think he would've been much happier to stay at home with me. with my second kid, i will definitely be keeping him home for longer! although saying all this, he still has learnt some independence at school which is a good thing.

Thanks. I sent my 2 older kids at 4 and 5 years, but it was really difficult for them to adjust. however, the 3 year old is asking to go so i'm not sure!

depends what kind of a "future" and what kind of a school, and education style you want for your child.

I know there are moms here who stick with the schedule like N America, keeping child home until kindergarten age of 5.

I personally put both of my kids in preschool/playgroup since 18 months of age, definitely had an advantage when interviewing for schools.... and they are more advanced than the avg child in language, social skills, math, and music.

They also had the exposure to tri-lingual environment, and learned to take care of themselves like washing hands, going to washroom, dressing themselves, and learning to eat snack with a group..... now both of them are going to kindergarten, local one though.

3 and 5 years old kids.

There is no right or wrong.

However I do agree with Katetam that there are big advantages to pre-school. Having said that, there are advantages to keeping the kids home.

Cara, Do you mean that the kids who are clinging on mom's knees obviously weren't in school? My daughter didn't start school til she was almost 6. She didn't want to and it was hard for her to adjust. We didn't do much reading or writing because she didn't want to, and when she started school, the teachers were fussing, but now she's 11 and is FIVE grades above grade level in her reading comprehension and SIX above in her vocabulary. However, my little guy has 2 older sibilings and seems keen to go so I'm deliberating over it.

but then there is also an argument that they would get used to being in school on their own better when they are younger? As 2.5 - 3 they just get used to anything much quicker as they are not set in their ways yet, i think. i will be sending mine by themselves in Jan when they are 2.5 yrs old i think,..
