Any suggestions for a short getaway from HK over christmas ?
Preferably warm, close and relaxing.

I Suggest you go to Philippines,there's an Island(Beach) there that is called Boracay. It's not very cold there and really relaxing,very cheap also

For beach holiday, try also
Philippines - Cebu (non-stop flight from HKG)
Malaysia - Kota Kinabalu (also non-stop flight from HKG)
For food and good thai massages
Thailand - Bangkok (non-stop flight from HKG)
For culture
Vietnam - food pretty similar to thai (non stop flight from HKG)
Just be aware that you are going over Christmas holiday which is winter in HKG and rain season for the above places, so most days will be raining. If you are lucky, you could have sunshine for the whole trip.

go to Cebu and Bohol. Christmas starts when they enter the 'ber (septemBER to decemBER) months...
imagine HK is freakin cold while a 2 hr trip down youll have sunny beaches...

You could go to Hainan Island, it's the new HK craze right now. It's not too expensive, we were there last year and we stayed at the Kempinski hotel. Great hotel, btw. It's a bit far away from the city but it's got its own private beach and a german bar that makes their own lager beer. It's a perfect getaway, if you want to go somewhere calm and quiet. There's another beach hotel (can't remember it's name) that many tourists (e.g. russians) go to... it's like an hour or so away from HK. I got a friend who's going there for Christmas this year, she paid 4500 for 5 days and 4 nights, inclusive of breakfast and dinner. A good deal, I reckon! Have fun! ;)
