When we arrived to HK, we signed up with PCCW, who provided long distance service with some sort of discount. I never fully understood how it worked, an issue of both language and lack of time on my part. But in any case, the promotion from which we benefited is now over, and I am wondering if anybody has any advice on finding a long distance service provider for our fixed line?
We will be needing it more and more, and it can get really really expensive if we are just using PCCW's 0060 IDD service.
Thank you for all your help in advance!

Do you have broadband? If yes, you can use Skype. For about 65 Honkies/month you get unlimited calling to 36 countries (including HK, USA, UK, France...). You can rent an incoming number for about 400 Honkies/year. You can also have additional incoming number in a number of other countries. For example if you are French you can get a number in France, making it cheap for friends and family to call you.
With a Skype phone, you don't need a computer. Just like using a traditional phone.
I know I'm the asiaexpat resident Skype fanboy but we love the service. We don't even have a landline. We also use it to do (free) videoconferencing with friends and family.

I am using Yahoo voice but for this you need a computer to call or that is the way i use it, reasonable prices but sometimes not clear communication.

hutchinson has pretty good long distance call plans. if you are using a landline or if your cellphone is not registered with 3 (a mobile service provider in the hutchison group), you can sign up for their 0088 service. at hkd48 a month, you can make unlimited calls to a designated list of countries.
if your cellphone plan is with 3, you can also sign up for their 1966 service which is similar to the hutchinson 0088 plan.
you can google 0088 hutchinson or visit 3's website for more details.
