I have a four year old LCD display that Dell will not fix and suggests I replace. I hate to create garbage un-necessarily. Anyone know where I can get this fixed? I'm pretty sure it's a connection problem (the cable works, but when I turn on the computer, the monitor flickers so I can see my log-in page and then stays black).

To be honest that doesn't sound like a monitor issue. I suppose it could be the standby logic fritzing out.
4 years is a long time. I know you don't want to create garbage but computer components are pushing their lifetimes by then. It might be hard to find parts.
As for places to fix, you can lug it to the ComputerZone (298 Hennessy Road) and have a chat with some of the junkyards... ahem... used stuff shops on the top two floors and see what they say.
