Hi

I am considering putting together a book to help expats when they first arrive in Hong Kong. Ie A How to Do Anything and Everything.....

Id be interested to hear what one or two pieces of information or How To's would have helped you in your first few weeks ettling in to Hong Kong.

While the idea is sound, I would be very careful before I use anything posted on this board or sent through the pm mechanism. I haven't read the fine print lately but on most boards like this you consent to surrendering your rights to the material. In other words, if you use material from here it could be considered breach of copyright.

Ah ok. Well those are a good start.

- How do I get utilities turned on?

- What are my legal rights as a tenant?

- How quickly can I get a helper?

- Where can I find Indian/American/Australian/etc... foodstuffs?

- Transportation options.

- What the heck is a debenture anyway?

- Which playgrounds have swings?

- Who is this Stanley guy and why should I care?

- Emergency numbers and locations.

- Chinese New Year obligations.

- What should I do if there is a typhoon warning?

- Where can I get baby supplies?

- I can't take this HK move right now and need to get seriously drunk in public. Please show me the way to Lan Kwai Fong/Wan Chai.

I wanted to add, by the way, that this has been done before. A visit to Dymock's revealed at least 2 books on the subject.

"a HK wiki book would be good."

It can't be a wiki and a book.

"you would have a bestseller if you had a book that was editorially independent and without commercial interests"

True. However in HK said book might be hard to distribute.
