mine just get sandwiches for lunch, plus a piece of fruit, fromage frais etc plus other finger foods. We eat our main meal in the evenings, we don't have 2 cooked meals a day which I think is fairly standard of uk diets. The extent of hot foodat lunch would be instant noodles, boiled eggs and soldiers, or spaghetti hoops on toast.

There is a book called "Annabel Karmen's Lunchboxes" if you want ideas of what to make for a school lunch box for your child. I found this book to be excellent, it's great if you're stuck for ideas.

here's an easy chicken recipe that works a treat everytime i invite my friends 5yr odl (who looks skinny, but can happily pack away four drumsticks).
you will need
Chicken drumsticks )6) or one cut up whole chicken
white wine (half a glass) optional
Chicken stock cube 1
potatos optional (2)
olive oil 2 tablespoons
place non stick pot that's big enough to hoold every thing and preferably shallow on the stove. pour in the oil, and once the oil is hot add the chicken and brown as evenly as possible. once the skin looks kind of shiny and a bit brown add the white wine if using, and cook for a minute or two. then add the stock cube dissolved in about 300-500ml of water, cover and cook stirring occasionally. this dish is nice if it cooks over slow fire. cut potatos and add when chicken is fairly done, and once the potatoes are soft about 5-10 mintes take cover off and allow the liquid to evaporate. keep stirring till everything sticks to the chciken and potatoes and there is no liqud.
accomapnied with a side dish of cut up tomatoes (seasoned with a tablespoon of olive oil, fresh basil and a pinch of salt) and some nice bread, it's a meal for the whole family.
not ultraquick, but quite easy.
