ORIGINAL POST

I've recently lost my car key (BMW) and it is the only one I have! Any idea as to who might be able to get me a new one cut- I guess they need to come out to the car to do this? I live in Pokfulam.

Any advice much appreciated!

Thanks

Depends on the age of the BMW and whether it is has a transcender in the key. If the car is from early 90's onwards it will, and the only real solution would be to go to BMW to order a new one. They will want VIN number, etc and proof of ownership.

Other companies can code keys BUT only if they have the original to scan. Without that it's main dealer only.

Thanks evildeeds. I am useless with cars! Is the transcender when you click on the key ring to open the car from a distance? If so then yes that is what I have- all linked in to the alarm. I guess I'll need to contact a dealer then.

Thanks for the advice!

Actually it's a chip within the key that sends a code when used in the ignition. This tells the car whether the key entered matches the information stored electronically and will allow the car to start.
