The lane behind Shanghai Tang in Central has several stalls that can resole shoes. From the shoes they have done, the handiwork looks pretty clean too.

Same place as Philly Cheese mentions: The alley next to Pedder Building (off Pedder Street). The youngish looking man in the first cobbler coming from Pedder Street does good work.

I would say that in HK you can safely trust this sort of thing to a street vendor. I have people who do this kind of thing quite reliable, even without a receipt.

I got some soles replaced by the shoemaker in Princes building. Cost me around HK$700 and whilst they did a good job, it took about 10 weeks and (clearly) was rather pricey. I used them because I was also repairing some expensive shoes. The next expensive pair I got re-soled were done by a small place on the first floor (podium level) in the big Philippino centre opposite IFC on Des Veaux Road (I've gone brain dead and can't remember the name - something like Worldwide House). This cost HK$200 for a fine job that took 2 days.

The cobblers in Pedder Street will probably do it for 100 or so. And they're the "expensive" alley vendors. 10 weeks and 700 is outrageous.

You got the name exactly right. :)

I still reckon between Pedder St and Theater Lane is the best option. They do a great job and it is inexpensive. You can also find various shoe repair places in many of the small alley ways from soho.

Hi

I used a shoe repair guy at one of the exits in Central (could be F but I can't be sure). He runs an operation like Mr Minit back home (cuts keys etc). When you are in the Central MTR station, walk towards Pret A Manger and to the right of that, go down the escalators and you should see the repair shop to your left. This store is in the underground.

Since your shoes are quite precious, you could try a shoe repair store next to Shake 'em Buns in Causeeway Bay (not far from Pret A Manger again, street next to Sunning Plaza). I took my husband's 2 pairs of work shoes there a couple of months ago and the guy did an excellent job. Price was about $200 I think. He has a lovely shop and a chart on the window that shows you what kind of soles are available. He will also assess your shoes to see what material it is made of and recommend the appropriate sole or heel to replace. My husband was stoked when he saw his shoes came back like brand new. It took 2 days for the repair.

Seen it done with shoe polishing. Mandarin Oriental Hotel used to bring their shoes to the one-legged shoe shine man that used to sit outside their hotel for work. He charges $20 while the guest pays $100 to the hotel.

Mandarin Oriental started a shoe shine service for $150. The two older guys at Pedder Lane are good. Also check out kaokee.com.hk

The cobbler in World Wide House Basement - Central station MTR level - is Mr Groom

Enter the MTR lobby, escalator next to Mrs. Field's Cookies, go down, turn left in the corner.

Two guys, quite experienced.

They also repair handbag stitching, etc.

Absolutely excellent, and cheap, service from Tim Yu Shoe Repair and Key Cutting. The tiniest shop I've seen (and that's saying something in HK!). Down an alleyway on O'Brien Road, near Wan Chai exit A4, just next to Luki Tower.

Tim fixes anything - including broken leather straps etc.

Two sandals and my daughter's school shoes repaired within 24 hours for total cost of HK$80.

Tim has excellent English and his number is 9525 5369.
