MTR or drive to Disneyland / food options

I'm taking my 3 year old to Disneyland this week and am debating whether to take a stroller.

Is the walk from the Disneyland train station to the front entrance very long? I can't tell from the park map whether I should take the train or drive.

Also, will the guards let me bring food and drinks in for my kid?

How much time should I allocate for the visit? Was thinking about getting there when the park opens. Are there any interesting rides/activities for adults?

Thanks

Hi Disney with a 3 year old is easy!! You can take your stroller and there are stroller parking areas before you get onto a ride or go into see a show. You can also hire one from there if you need too. The walk from the station is not long and it is the same walking distance from the car park. The car park is $120 for the day. I always find that it is so much easier to take the car as if your little one is tired, he or she can fall asleep on the way home. I love Disney and so do my children. You either love it or hate it. Plan on being there for most of the day. I always take food and have never been stopped. Enjoy your day - its great!

bring extra clothes for your little one too because there is a fun splashing area.

get the fast pass for some rides, it help you save time standing in line.

make sure that your stroller has a good sturdy nametag or don't use a fancy stroller. i have heard stories of guests whisking away other people's strollers for their own children's use

snacks and munchies are allowed inside. packed meals and sandwich are not and they will be binned. they are very thorough in their bag searches.

if you have only so much time, don't miss the lion king show, winnie the pooh, golden mickeys is okay, jungle cruise, autopia (but your kid rides with you), it's a small world, and the parade. for adults - space mountain

tip: the park lets in people at 930 am as some of the cafes open for bfast. however you can only go as far as the roundabout. still it is a good way to beat the crowd getting in at 10. you could hang around or go around the shops first

I take my own sandwiches, drinks & snacks. If they stop me I tell them that my child is on a special diet, then they do not stop me taking the food in.

We always get there for 10am opening and driving is much better, especially with a little one and for the crap you end up buying and need to lug home! The trip home on the train seems interminable when you are hot and tired and have a hot, overtired child.

oh, take a can of the spray mist for your face. Honestly works wonders when you are melting in the sun whilst standing in line for the rides, takes the edge of humidity.

Oh another thing, DO NOT GO ON A SUNDAY!!!!

I would take a stroller as it is quite a walk for a 3 year old, plus you can avoid lugging around your heavy bag of snacks / drinks / spare clothes / sunscreen etc etc because you can pop the bag in the basket. If you want to have a go without a stroller and then change your mind, they do have them for rent, nice ones, too, and I think it's $50 for the day plus a refundable deposit.

Parking is $120 for the day unless you have a certain type of annual pass and then it's free.

I would bring food and drink if I were you. The guards did once say I couldn't bring in my kids' food and drink but relented when I protested.

For my 3 year old, 2-3 hours is plenty - depends on how long your kid can keep going for! But we also have annual passes, so we don't feel obliged to stay for hours to get our money's worth. If you want to "do the whole park" then you'd probably need to be there for a full day, but that would be tiring!

If you are only going for a few hours, try 3.30-6pm, as it's not so hot (and the parade starts at 3.30pm). If you arrive at 10am, it will be boiling hot for all your visit at this time of the year. My favourite thing to do is a Friday afternoon 3.30-6pm, as it doesn't matter if we're late home because the kids don't have school the next day. Plus it's a weekday and not too crowded.

Anything for adults? Not much, in my opinion. I think Hong Kong Disneyland is fab for kids aged 2 - 8 and love taking mine there, their enjoyment is my magical experience, that said there's no way I'd go there without children :)

Book an overnight stay at one of the hotels. Charater breakfast at the Disney Hotel as well. Nice pools and so relaxing. Shuttles to the park as well.
