does anyone know where i can get plain cards with cut outs so you can slide photos of your kids into them? Would like to use those for our Xmas cards this year but do not want to order propert cards with photos in photo printers etc - would like to do the cheaper DIY version! many thanks

Have you tried Spotlight at Megabox? They have a big selection of card-making sets. Not sure of the cutout bit, but certainly worth a look. I may be heading out this week, so I will have a look and let you know.

St Johns bookshop always sells these, with a xmas border, have used them before and they looked great, but worked out a lot more expensive than normal cards.

I see these at the Christmas fairs every year.

Just as an alternative, does anybody have any suggestions for cheap and cheerful printed Christmas cards with the kids photos? How long do thes take? How much do they work out to be?

How many do you need?

Every Christmas, we send out 15 (the rest are e-cards).

What we do is we buy A4 cardboard papers, fold them into halves, then cut rectangles out of them. We would then stick my daughter's photo to replace the cut-out rectangles. We stick the photo from the inside if you know what I mean.

For the greetings inside, we use a thinner A4 paper to print words on. We type them on the computer, print two greetings per page, then cut them. We use a double sided tape to stick the greetings onto the card.

The chinese stationery shops have lots of bits and pieces that you can buy to decorate the cards too and they only cost HK$5 for a whole pack. I've stuck ribbons, flowers, pop-up stickers etc onto the cards. Not sure what we'll do this year but I am sure my 4 year old will have lots of ideas! ;-)

Good luck!
