fathers name not on birth certificate, Is he still responsible financially?

Hi Need some advice,


If the mother has not listed the fathers name on the BB's birth certficate is he still responsible for her and the baby financially? She is Indonesian and had the BB here in HK. but I beleive the BB is back in Indonesia. What are the fathers rights in a situation like this?

I don't know what the law is in HK or Indonesia but in UK if you’re not named as the father you have no rights unless you go to court to ascertain you are the dad. Obviously if the baby were in Indonesia access would be very difficult as would getting support for the child.

A paternal test can be done to prove who the father is but in honesty if the mother doesn't want you seeing the child it will be all but impossible to do so.

As for maintenance this would also be difficult unless the mother can prove who the dad is although my own honest belief is that some form of support should be made for the child if the guy knows he is the dad it’s just the right thing to do.

If contact can be made with the mother perhaps an agreement between the two can be made that support will be given for the child in exchange for access rights. During this time a blood test can be done to ensure he is the dad.

I wouldn’t be too pushy if he wants access or it will be used as a tool but play it cool that he wants to do the right thing by the child but that also means access so it’s either both or non. It sounds tough but there are mums who will use the kids as a weapon to get what they want if they think the dad’s are desperate to be in the kids’ life.
