Hi all,

I just relocated to HK as of today (yay me).


However I managed to put a big dirty scratch through the centre of my glasses. My backup pair is still 2 to 3 weeks away.


Any recommendations on a place where I could get some glasses on HK island (around the IFC specifically).

try Lenscrafters in the Prince's Bldg. (can be reached through the walkways from the IFC) or Leo Optic, shop 1033 IFC tel. 2537-3173. Hope this helps.

Lenscrafters is at least 15% more expensive than any normal Optical 88 or the other chain in HK. Frankly, if you have to hang around IFC then you will pay quite a bit more. There are many discount optical places in and around Causeway Bay (3 MTR stops from Central). There are a couple by the Lee Garden, a short walk around the area will find most of what you are looking for.


Closer to Central is along Queens Rd Central where there are at least 3 optical shops. all speak English so communication should not be an issue. Turnaround is a matter of days too.

Not all spectacles shops have qualified staff, certainly not optometrists. So sometimes you get what you pay for.


Solomani, I'd contact someone from home to email you your prescription. Then you can have the specs made to specs.

Thanks all. I can live without for a few weeks. Glasses are usable just somewhat annoying. But I can live with it until I get my actual prescription.
