For those of you who have been using grobags -- when did you start to 'wean' your child off the bag onto sleeping with a blanket / duvet?
How did you approach this to make sure that they know how to regulate their own temperature? I.e. to pull their blankets around them when they are cold and shrug them off when they are hot?

How old is your child? Grobag has just come out with their "First Duvet" for 2 yrs old and after. It's great as the duvet is partially zipped onto the sheet so the blanket cannot be kicked off.

ours are 2 yrs and 3 months old and are still in bag but with a duvet as well. Duvet gets kicked off more often than not but I am not worried about it as they have the bags on! In fact i just bought the ones 3-6 yrs old, i find the absolutely brilliant and the kids are never cold... so guess i wont be weaning them off for another few years!

We did it at about 1 year. By about 16 months our kids were in real beds and could get out by themselves so a grobag would probably have been a bit constricting.

nope, does not stop them getting out at all! wish it did!! :(

i wish my 16 month old still liked his grobag! but he stopped liking a while ago - maybe at 10 months? now, blankets are completely useless cos they inevitably ripped off. i resort to regulating his sleepwear and the A/C temp in his room and he sleeps completely blanket free. i thought that "First Duvet" sounds interesting but at this age my baby is still flip flopping all over the cot - not sure he will be able to stay in one place all night.....

i was thinking about the First duvet as well a while back but not sure i like the fact they kids end up sort of trapped if they slide down in the bed (that mine do) and just will freak out as they will be well under the duvet sort of zipped on the sides. So decided to continue with grobag till much much older i think...

Thanks for your thoughts and replies. Just spoke to a friend who told me that her 5YO still doesn't know how to pull his blankets up so I guess there's no harm in keeping my 2YO in the bag for now. He can do everything in the bag, including getting out of bed and shuffling around like Caspar the Ghost!
Will investigate the First Duvet -- sounds interesting.

Don't fix what isn't broken I say. If your child is happy in the grobag, then let them go. My baby is in a grobag and I will be happy using it until the time comes when he starts arking up about it.
My 5 yr old still kicks of the blankets, so I just adjust the air con to suit sleeping without any blankets.

i just put my 17 month old back into a grobag after having been out of one for several months! i want to retrain him to be in one as winter is approaching and keeping the blanket on will be more of an issue than in summer. tonight is the first night. he went down okay but i wonder how he will go throughout the night cos i know he likes to flip flop around the cot. hope it goes well!
