Prosection for speeding?

Hi Guys,

Just got home to find a notification that HK's finest clocked me doing 61km/h in a 50km/h zone - doh! HOWEVER I was under the impression that to be prosecuted you had to be driving at 14km/h over the speed limit so I would have to have been travelling at 64km/h to get a ticket.

Can anyone clarify this or has the rule changed?

Many thanks in advance,

Reg

To be ticketed in a 50kmh zone you actually only have to be doing 51kmh! No rule changes at all. The first notification that you receive is just that, a notification. Fill in the detains and within a few weeks you'll probably receive a $450 fine and 3 points.

Thanks EDeeds. A friend was caught a few weeks ago doing 69 in a 50 and got a HK$320 fine and no points - we'll see.

Drive safely everyone!

last night was unlucky night for me. at li chi kok bridge, there was random radar speed check, speed on bridge was 70km, i was doing 102km according to officer, after deduction he took as 98km per hour. He gave me ticket for 15km exceed with hkd450 and 3 points deduction. it is my first speeding offence in 10 years driving license. can i appeal for not to deduct points. I am willing to pay more fine but just donot was to loss any points. I want to keep perfect 15 points are before. pls advise.

I got caught a few months ago, actually a very dodgy one now so be careful......

Travelling south on the Tolo Highway they have extended the 100kmh towards Shatin, it then drops to an 80kmh limit but very shortly after the 80 sign there is a camera....actually the camera has always been there but didn't think as they had expanded the 100 zone - went through at 103 deducted to 98 or 99 which give me 3 points and $450 fine. Now know and to be honest those points last only 2 years so not to much of an issue.

61 in a 50 is fine only $320 no points.

You can do a course arranged by TD to get rid of three points for a small fee

Valentine 1 is an excellent radar detector and is legal

I just found out from the cops that it'll be $320 and no points.

I use the Bell X360 which is great too BUT I've been through that trap 300 times in the last year at 60kph and no flash so they've only just brought down the limit. Finances must be hard!!

Be aware people!!

1-15 $320 no points

16-30 is 3 points and a $450 fine

31-45 is 5 points and a fine (can't remember maybe $800)

46 and over is summonsed to court and get a good lawyer to stop being sent to jail especially if you have been disqualified before. You will be lucky to get away with a fine of about $5k and disqualified for 3 months
