So, I am 8 weeks pregnant with my first and am looking into the public hospital route as my husband and I cannot realistically afford to go private.
I live in North Point, and from the stuff I've been reading, Pamela Youde would be the hospital we'd go to. Is that correct?
Does anyone have any experience, positive or negative, that you could share? I've been browsing previous threads, but most of them seem to be about Queen Mary or Kowloon side hospitals. Any help would really be appreciated, as I am really nervous about this baby.

I had my babies at Queen Mary H. (good experience) and Queen Elizabeth H. (bad experience), but my general impression of PYNEH has been overall positive. Hope someone can give you their opinion on the obstetric care there...
I lived in Quarry Bay and I was appointed to attend Tsan Yuk and given quota in QM Hospital - so if things have not changed, it may be QM for you too. In case of emergency I could have chosen PYNEH just as well.

We had ours at HK Adventist and are very happy with everything there. The facility and people are very very good and friendly. My wife's OB/GYN also does her rounds there so it was one of the choices we looked at.
After seeing PYNEH's maternity ward, it seems to be fine as well, specially for a public hospital. They have a separate maternity wing that looks to be much newer than the general wing. Best to check out the hospital and their prices for different room types and make your choices from there. The biggest downside to going public is you don't have a personal relationship with your doctor/surgeon.

Thanks for the replies gals!
Could any of you tell me how you go about scheduling a visit or making a booking? I looked at the HA website, but it wasn't very clear. Thanks!

As you live in North Point, I would expect you should call Anne Black Health Centre's Maternal and Child Health Centre to book an appointment for antenatal check-up (Tel : 2562 2109), and they will arrange you to follow-up at PYNEH or Tsan Yuk

we had our girl at PYN in Jan 08. Have to say postnatal ward nurses could use a heavy dose of bedside manner training...treated my wife (she's local, i'm not) terribly immediately after delivery, to the point where she had to complain in tears to the head nurse (and my wife is incredibly patient and accommodating)...but our girl ended up staying in the Special Care unit an extra week, and the nurses there were wonderful, coaching both of us in feeding techniques, always with a smile...will go back againtho (can't beat the price :-))
