Woodlands Monessori Preschool

Our son is just moved up to the stepping stones class from the playgroup and we have noticed a huge change in his attitude to school. As we are both working parents we don't get much chance to pick up our son and speak to other parents but we are really interested to know other parents experience especially those with kids attending Ms Karen's class.

Which Woodland Montessori preschool?

It can take several weeks for a child to adapt to the move to a new class. In this case it's almost the biggest transition, from Playgroup, where he is accompanied, to Stepping Stones, where he is not. I have seen it in my #1 and other children both in this transition and in the one from Stepping Stones to Pre-School. Many kids have crying fits and don't want to go to school. I would give it at least 3-4 weeks before starting to worry. It takes that long for at he adaptation to really kick in. But by all means talk to the administrator and the teachers about it. On the phone works too.

hi

my son found the transition from playgroup to stepping stones the hardest, as did alot of his friends. it is perfectly normal for them not to want to go to school at first and to cry for one, two or three weeks.

it's really upsetting for us parents and we really do wonder if we are doing the right thing....

but they do get over it and it does get better...

when my son moved into proper preschool (woodlands montessori) at the beginning of the month there was a huge change again, but on the positive side! he now loves school!

now i feel happy in doing what we did.....

hi,

my son has been in wdld montessori midlevels and he had a teacher Ms. Karen (Eng speaking Asian) in his stepping stone class. if this is the same Ms. karen, I can assure you your son will soon settle in. She is a wonderful teacher. My son who is now in K1, went into his old classrm on his 2nd day to say gd morning to Ms. Karen and gave her a long hug b4 going back to his class. In the beginning he was really distressed and tried to get out of the classrm. AFter a wk he was OK and started to love it. I guess your little one should have already settled in Stepping Stone.

Thanks for the comments - I finally met Karen and had a chat and seems she is quite nice. It's probably just lack of communication/feedback moving into the stepping stones class as well as working through separation anxiety. I guess it was also a change for me from having direct feedback/participation to the "communication books".
