Internet Connection making me CRAZY

Hi All,

We have a PC in my husbands office that is hooked to the PPOE Broadband service through netvigator. The connection is always fine and we rarely have to reconnect. We have three laptops that are connected through the cable modems where are televisions are located. I am constantly having to reconnect to the internet due to lost connections. I have to input the user name and password often. One of the computers will not connect at all after working for months. I have tried retyping the username and password many times to no avail.

What am I doing wrong? These laptops will work fine for months at a time and then I will lose the connection randomly. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks!

You will get disconnects sometimes. There might be a glitch somewhere along the line. Also Windows "connections" sometimes gets "messed up". Have you tried creating a new "connection" item in Windows?

The most reliable method is to use a router that automatically "dials" and checks the connection state.

Am I understanding correctly that you have more than one modem?

Thanks for your reply...

It is so odd....I did create a new connection and after unplugging and rebooting everything, the "old" connection would not work, but the "new" one did. Why, all of a sudden, would my old one stop working?

As for the modems, I am using the ones attached to the cable boxes for the tvs. So yes, we have four.

Windows is not 100% reliable when it comes to this sort of thing.

Four? Are you paying for four? A router is a more efficient solution. I nothing else it would save you from having to initiate the connection in Windows.
