Hi,
I need to transfer some Rmb to a chinese bank account but my online hsbc won't allow me. can someone tell me the best way to do a one-off transfer to such an account? Thanks!

Why not go into the bank and do the transfer instead? Sometimes online banking won't allow you since you have to register the receiving account first.

You can only do online transfers to other people's accounts at HSBC if you have signed the agreement first. You need to give the signed agreement to a bank branch.

When you do the transfer, of course it has to originate from your bank (HSBC), from there you can transfer money to any bank anywhere as long as you have the receiver's full bank account info (their full name, account #, bank name and branch #, swift code, etc.). The bank will have a form for you to fill out.
If you do online transfer, you will need to first register the receiver's bank account details with your bank, then your bank takes a few days to process it, afterwards you can do transfers online easily. This is convenient for transfers you regularly make.
