The Carlton Hotel

Does anybody here remember the old Carlton Hotel? I (and my then girlfriend) used to enjoy Sunday lunch there from time to time, watching the planes coming in across the harbour to land at Kai Tak.

Come to think of it, the old Repulse Bay Hotel verandah was also a special place.

They absolutely do not make them like that any more.

Peggie,

I remember the Shatin Heights Hotel, it was of a similar age, and style. I also remember the Sha Tin Fung Lum restaurant - maybe that is still there.

Please remind me, what was the address of the Carlton?

Talking about nostalgia............

There used to be a restaurant called Shatin Inn right across Shatin Heights where you can just drive in and park. They serve Indonesian food. Is it still there?

And just around the bend on the same road, there was a place where you can ride on horses - guess it's gone too.

It is a sad thing about Hong Kong that a lot of history has been lost. I remember the Shatin Inn, and also the riding school.

Shatin Inn may still be there but road works may have encroached into that lovely garden they had.

What about Yuckadelac pity that has been lost to development. I remember as a kid falling into the fish ponds as we ran across the stones

According to Wikipedia, Yucca de Lac was still operating as recently as 2005, when it was sold for redevelopment.
