Hi all,

This is a long shot!! Living in a newly renovated apartment and have noticed an odour emitting from the new kitchen/bathroom pipes.

Has anyone else come across this problem in HK any suggestions on what to do?

we had this problem too til I found the cause. our washing mach. was in the kitchen and the drain hose was inserted right to the bottom of the trap (the bulbous, removeable bowl that collects your wedding rings when they go down the sink drain!) this caused a syphon effect after each wash, emptying this bowl of the water required to seal out odours...by extending the pipe rising out of the bowl, and pulling up the drain hose, enough waster remained after each wash/drain cycle to keep the bowl filled...

make sure your plumber has installed these fittings under each drain (sink/washer as the others are typically outside the flat on the exterior wall) also, pour some water into the floordrains (usually at the base of the exterior wall for draining floor wash water...they may be empty if the floors have yet to be washed and would let sewer gas into the room
