Radar detectors are not illegal in HK. The ones that are illegal are the ones that try and unscramble laser detectors that the police point at you.

Valentine 1 is legal and probably the best. It would be much cheaper to get one from the states. You then have to set it for U-band very effective upto 500m warning of radars
