Sounds like New York. Joy. We've done that. I don't know about the tablets, but I'll say that the flight does end eventually and that huffy people getting annoyed at tired babies need to get a life.
At the destination, it really isn't that much of a problem. As a rule, kids adapt faster than parents. Just make sure the room they sleep in is cool and dark. And adapt timetable to destination immediately, adding extra snacktimes and naps as needed.

Hi Sashimi Girl, I have tried it before when my first child underwent teething but honestly didn;t find it did anything.
I would also advocate switching to timetable at destination immediately...well, as close as you can go anyway. It worked for me when we returned to Australia (9hr night flight) which we do regularly. I also find it easier to travel when bub is young - they sleep mostly in the bassinet. (please make sure you pre-book and get confirmation; I have heard of parents who have to carry their infants all the way cos airlines forgot abt bassinet)
There are also several past threads on what to prepare on board which I find very useful. Your own bassinet blanket /pillow for bub is a must.
