My poor baby has enlarged adenoids. For the past ten days, he 's been having great difficulty breathing at night, has been sleeping longer hours (but is still tired), wakes up at night crying each time he changes postition and sounds like has a cold (which he does not)

We brought him to a doctor in Hk, who reccommends removal of his adenoids. Although my hubby and i are not opposed to this (watching his laboured breathing for 10 days has convinced us that drastic measures are indeed necessary.

We were not however too thrilled with the doc himself, who looked rather young and inexperienced and wanted to treat my baby with anibiotics. cold meds and nasal decongestants for a week (though i tiold him that he had no mucus coming out form his nose whatso ever). He had him x rayed 'cos i insisted, and then said, oh yes, they're (the adenoids) big and obstrucing his nasal passages, and will have to be taken out.

If anyone has a good doc, would really appreciate names and numbers.

Your experince on doing adenoidecomy on a 20month old or young toddler would also help.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Try Dr. Alexander Choy (2869 1178.). He's not a surgeon but a good ear doctor. I'm sure he would have some recommendations. Otherwise the Matilda Hospital is typically a safe bet.

Thanks fr the suggestion, but really need an ENT surgeon to have a look at him. The doc that i went to, told me that he could perform the surgery at Matilda, but he reminds me so much of the main character in American Psycho.

I am soo not at ease letting him poke around baby's nose with something that suck and cauterize tisssue...

Is a good ear doctor also a good nose doctor?

First I think your baby's pedia is not very good. Why he's giving so many meds to the poor baby? Seems like misdiagnosis! And antibiotics should never be given as much as possible unless really required.

You need to change your pedia and get a good recommended ENT surgeon from that doc. Try Dr. Leo Chan 2525-5755 at Manning House in Central, he's an excellent pedia who is very honest, speaks excellent english & chinese.

Our ENT surgeon is at Central Building. Dr Simon Wong, Dr Ricky Ho.... and his partners. very professional.

The last time I had a pinkie long fish bone stuck in my throat for 3 days, cos the A&E at a government hospital cannot "SEE" the fishbone despite having had my throat investigate for half hour. I went to Dr Simon Wong and had my throat freed from bone in less than 5 minutes! They have sophisticated equipments in their clinic.

Next, my 4 yr old daughter had both ears congested with ear wax. And Dr Wong had them washed and suctioned in less than 10 mins. And my girl had no pain watsoever.

Next, my general PD cannot "SEE" or diagnose an acute tonsilitis 2 months ago. And my poor girl had her nose dripping greenish fluid and her eyes dripping tears and the face getting swollen. Brought my girl to ENT and was shocked to see the tonsils had grown large enough to leave a 2 cm gap just for food thru the throat. The ENT prescribed a powerful antibiotics and the tonsilitis subsided 2 days later. The ENT mentioned that if I bring her just one day later, then it may result in the eyes getting too much blockage with fluid and need to do a drainage operation.

So much for medical blunders these days that we just need to be "LUCKY".

Well, i kind of looked up the doctor at the last minute on friday aftenoon as i was getting a bit panicked about baby's breathing and sleep apnoea.

The doc that i saw WAS in Central building, at the Ear nose throat centre of HK, so i assumed (mistakenly) that he would be ok.

Singapore mum, thanks, can u give me the doc's number? is he quite experienced? The doctors seem so young these days, like they are fresh grads.

Yes i too am shocked by docs prescribing antibiotics at the drop of a hat, though reading thru some sites, it seems to be the way they treat inflamed adenoids on occasion.

"Is a good ear doctor also a good nose doctor?"

Typically the specialty is ENT, so "Ear Nose Throat" so they will know a lot about the whole area. Ear, nose and throat are very interconnected systems. What I meant with my recommendation is that Dr. Choy may know a good surgeon.

I've found a doctor who i'm really comfortable with.

Dr Y. Hui of pedder clinic. Just in case anybody else is in need of a good otorhinolarygologist (might have missed some 'h's or letters in that word, but u get the gist) or ENT.
