I have a 9 year old who won't let me teach him to ride a bike. Does anyone know of anyone/anywhere that provides bike riding lessons in HK?

There are places you can hire bikes that may be able to help you. Tai Po (NT) has bikes for hire as does Kowloon Walled City Park and also has a bike track. You could try asking there.

Have you tried training wheels? You could do this for the first couple of months until he is confident and that way you aren't "teaching" him. Once he has the hang of it, take them off, offer him some help. If he doesn't take it, then tell him to go for it himself.

Failing that, perhaps you could ask a friend to help him.

Sorry don't know of any. Ask him if there is someone he would like that could teach him other than you. Maybe he's embarrassed because of his age, most kids can ride bikes a lot younger, for that reason I don't think training wheels would work either. Or find a flat grass area for him to practice on, and let him get on with it. .

Training wheels are a bit of crutch once you get past 4-5. They delay learning.

In any other place I'd say find a big lawn, but in HK...

Agree training wheels delay learning, but if he doesn't want anyone to help him, then there is not alot of choice. The lawn/grass idea is good.

Has he used a scooter? That will help initially with his balance, then he could go onto a bike.

You would be surprised at the amount of young teenagers I saw down at Kowloon Walled City Park bike track a couple of weeks ago who were riding bikes with training wheels.
