Has anyone noticed that neither of the two candidates they currently have are able to correctly pronounce the following words, Israel and Ahmadinejad.
All American politicians pronounce it as ISREAL and in one of the debates they both added a K sound to the Iran leader's name.
How about a simple phone in, the first person to correctly pronounce them both wins the seat of the highest office in the land. No more wasting hundreds of millions on the travelling circus, which the U.S could do better to put elsewhere at the monent.

"Reminds me of GWB talking about NUCELAR weapons...."

Well now, let's not ignore other incorrect pronunciations, starting with our very own bar district "Wanzai", followed by the province in Iraq where once stood a big tower called Babel, which sounds like apple, not Mabel. I think there are far worse grievances committed by politicians, US and otherwise, than pronunciation of transliterated words. Israel incidentally is pronounced by Israelis as Yis Ra'el.
The US consulate has a sign on it that says people can fill in an absentee ballot today (Wednesday) from 4-7pm if they want to vote in any case.

yeah but if you are going to send your child to war in a country, perhaps not getting a specific area's pronunciation correct is understandable nobody expects people to pronounce 100% accurate all the time. The whole countries name being pronounced phonetically incorrect when your own sons life is in danger and you might oversee spend over a trillion dollar, suggests to me flippancy or carelessness. Nobody should be saying Eyeran in EyeRaq in this day and age leave alone VP nominees, Omitting the y when pronouncing Israel is completely different, it has been convention probably since biblical times that a lot if not all non Jews pronounced it that way. In fact my best friend is Israeli and him and his entire family when they lived in Hong Kong also omitted the Y, perhaps that may have changed with them having moved there now, but certainly not when they speak to me

No one is saying Mcain and Obama need say Yisrael, but at least be close enough by just same pronunciation minus the Y.
I just think that considering all U.S politicians like to harp on about this country, it would be nice to hear one pronounce it correctly.
