Man with a van??

Are these people worth using? Even though I am only moving a couple of miles and have only one floors worth of stuff to move I would like it done quickly and in a reasonable fashion. Or should I go and hire a removal truck?

Last time I moved the fellahs didn't have a screwdriver between them.

There is a indian company I tried, they were useless.

I rang up and asked for a truck gave them the details of everything that was to be moved and agreed on a price. On the day they turned up with a small van that wouldn't even fit one of items in (wardrobe) never mind the rest. This is after i even gave all measurements. Therefore they rang for a truck, and surprise surprise their fee increases. They had no trolly to move heavy things, no nothing, then they complained they had to carry stuff. What delivery men complain when that's what they agreed to do.

They didn't handle the furniture well at all, there were foot prints on my white book shelves resulting to a lot of damage, including the legs of furniture being broken off. His response to this was you can glue it back on. They left one piece of furniture down stairs and refused to take it up the steps unless i gave him more money, but we had agreed on a final price the first time round. This had increased twice during the removal, and to this day that wardrobe is sitting in someone downstairs flat because there was no one to help me carry it.

So be very aware of this company. I do not remember the name, it was an indian based one. (no I am not racist) this is a description.

I have moved 5 times since living in HK so i know what the prices are, be aware these people are con artists that provide a very poor service

Wanted to update this... just used Simon's services yesterday and he was excellent.

He specializes in home-moves, and his company is called Skyeagle Logistics Services.

The above number still works (and they have a website at http://skyeagle.biz) - we called him Saturday night and set up a pickup for the next morning. Prompt, was $250 from Causeway Bay to Sai Wan Ho, so perhaps a bit pricier than the local companies but given our lack of Cantonese they all just hung up on us... so this seemed a much better option!

His English is great, he was friendly and helped us even though we'd technically only rented the van. Would definitely use his services again should we ever need them.

Just spoke with Simon, and asked for a small van- no need for any help, everything is all boxed up. I am going from CentreStage to Mid-Levels, one trip and will take max 30 minutes.... My quote was $400. I move everything in 3 taxi trips!

I have used Chinese firms from Kennedy Town to Mid-Levels that charge $150. My advice would be to get a local Chinese man with a van and I am sure we all know someone with Cantonese skills.

I cannot comment on his service but his quotes are really too high... Unless that was 'expat' price!!!!?

Just spoke with these guys.... Perfect English. They came in 10 minutes- very easy to arrange, very easy to load truck and they have just helped me unload. Within 30 minutes of calling them it was all done! Cost $180. Details below:

Just a follow up to the above thread to give everyone an idea on prices.

We just used Man with a Van to transport a Queen size ensemble from Stanley to Cheung Sha Wan (North Kowloon)- quite a distance. We organised the afternoon before & they did a pick up at 9am. As written above, they speak English to very easy to organise.

The actual cost of the move was $540 and we had to pay an extra $180 at each end for stairs (5 flights at pick up, 8 flights at delivery) as the bed was too big for the lifts. So it was a total of $900.

They covered everything with plastic so there was not a mark on it. And most imnportantly, we didn't have to do a thing!!

Would definitely use them again.

Just a follow up - used these guys yesterday (referred to above). Had to pick up items from 2 different locations, and also disassemble and reassemble Ikea bed from one of them. Very easy to organise by email and very responsive (I got same day service). Perfect English, goods were wrapped before moving and I was very happy with service. Total was HK$870. Highly recommend.

Hi, I am trying to move one drawer (Ikea Malm 3drawers chest) from Sheung Wan to Hang Hau. the size is only like 80cm X 48cm X 78cm . I have never used a moving van before. I just need a van to drive to my place. or maybe also move up to second floor in our houes.

is there any one you could recommend for moving this? I really have tight budget on moving just this small cabinet...so i hope it's not expensive

Just as an update, I think these guys have raised their prices quite a bit!

To move a double size mattress and box spring from the midlevels to TST, I was quoted the following (elevator buildings so no stairs)

Simon 69089063 - $600 + 100 for toll (for truck - he said items won't fit in van?)

manwithavan@live.hk - 580 including toll (for van)

When I used man with a van to move house 5yrs ago, I manged to move my queen bed + box spring, couch, desk and a few boxes all for 500!! i guess times have changed!

Highly recommend manwithavan@live.hk

I had some furniture picked up in the Midlevels to deliver to Crossroads in Tuen Mun. The entire planning process was done efficiently over email. Their price was the best among all the man with a van I contacted. And, on the day of the pick up, they showed up promptly and moved the furniture out quickly. I can say enough good things about them. manwithavan@live.hk

Just contacted manwithavan@live.hk for moving a King size bed from Sheung Wan to Olympic. Got quoted $1280. Are they on drugs? The whole bed cost $1800.

I'm sure they are really good, but this is waaay too expensive. Trying manwithdrill.com now.

I need a van to move about 25-30 ready-packed supermarket boxes from Central to Kowloon, at fairly short notice. Just a question of taking them down the lift, and then delivering to a storage warehouse.

Is there any update to these recommendations? I am asking as this seems a unique request -- almost everyone else naturally is moving bits of furniture....
