HK employment visa for Vietnamese national?

Does anyone have experience obtaining an employment visa for Vietnamese passport holders? We were just told by immigration that VN passport holders cannot apply. I find this hard to believe.

Yes, it's true, I am afraid. Nationals of Afghanistan, Albania, Cambodia, Cuba, Laos, Korea (Democratic People's Republic of), Nepal and Vietnam cannot apply for normal employment visas.

Seems odd. Just spoke to immigration, who said "Vietnamese cannot apply for any visa besides tourist visa"

They can apply for a dependant visa if their spouse has a valid employment visa as well.

Maybe I'll have to marry her instead of just hire her...

Hi there I am singaporean but living in Macau now. I had perform and successful got tourist visa for many vietnamese before and I had help them to extend their stay in Hong Kong for more than 3 months. However, I also noted that they are never allowed to get a normal working visa.


There is only 2 way to get her permission to work in Hong Kong. The first one is you already know is to marry her which really depends on affinity.


The next thing is a valid diplomatic reasons or claim between her and her country of birth. This is the only way to allow her to stay long term in Hong Kong and get to work without marry some one else.


One of the claim is called torture claim. I can give you more information but there are really too little information I have on hand.


besides her nationality is a concern to get a work permit, there are also many other factors. For example, you can be from the most established country like United kindgom, however, you do not have any skills or education, it also does not make it clear that you can get a job in this country.
