Baby won's sleep at night...

Our first baby turns 7 weeks in a few days and he's been absolutely great... during the day. He feeds and sleeps like a text book baby without any drama. However, for the past few weeks, he's progressively sleeping less and less at night (hence more and more during the day). Last nite, he pretty much stayed up from 10pm till 7am... dozing off for 30 minutes here and there. We've read all kinds of books and expert opinions on how to deal with this - from gina ford to the baby whisperer but nothing is working. Does anyone have similar experiences? Is this normal? thanks so much.

let him sleep less during the day, make sure room is dark at night and dont stimuate him, like keeping lights on and talking, playing or singing to him. Feed him up in the evening,.

sounds like your baby has the day and night upside down..

schedules: GF's, baby whisperer's, your own will all take time to kick in and start funcitoning smoothly..

yes, def day/night reversal. you do want him to sleep less during the day but you don't want to go overboard and get him overtired. what worked for us [my youngest 2 months yesterday] was to limit his daytime naps to 2 hrs at a time. also avoid tv at night until he gets switched back.

Young babies do not have established circadian rhythms; so cannot distinguish between day and night.

Encourage day feeds and night sleep – gently wake baby if sleeping longer then 4 hours during the day and offer a feed

Exposure to light – research shows that babies who are exposed to more light in the early afternoon slept better at night
