Does anybody's baby have these?
ar they good, bad, useless, indispensable?
My baby had a nasal obstruction and is due to get his adenoids out tomorrow.
The doc suggests puttin in grommets to drain some fuid that seems to have remained in his middle ear.
i'm a bit anxious about the whole thing
has anyone been thru this?

My daughter suffered from ear infections and I was so reluctant to get grommets put in. I spoke to my Chiropractor and he starting adjustments on my daughter, within 3 adjustments, her ear infections cleared up. Whenever she starting getting that ear infection look (trust me, after so many I could tell the signs!), I whipped her off to my chiro. That was in Australia.
My doctor was so amazed and my daughter never needed grommets.
Over here, we go to see an Osteopath and she does cranial asymetry on my newborn (well 4 months now) with his unsettledness and possetting and he fantastic now.
If you are reluctant on having grommets (I don't blame you), then you could try either of these practices. My osteo over here is wonderful and I wouldn't hesitate to take my daughter if I suspected an ear infection. I plan on having her seen to in a few weeks time as she has been suffering from a cold.
It's certainly worth a shot if you can avoid going through the invasive procedures.
Let me know if you want the details of my osteo.
Good Luck.

Hi Neenib,
I dont know what is it about HK docs, but they seem to prescribe surgery at the drop of a hat. the thing is that my baby has never had ear infections, but recent nasal oobstrucion, (leading to sleep apnea and snoring and other problems) have led to the accumulation of liquid in his middle ear. I do trust this doc that i'm seeing right now, who wants his adenoids out, but not so convinced about the grommets. they soudn like an awful invasion on my child's ear.
tomorrow he is going to have an adenoidectomy, so the gommets are going to go in during this procedure.
but yes please do give me the details of your osteopath, maybe i can just take him there for his general checkups. I'm so tired of giving meds to my baby.

I understand completely about the meds. It seemed my daughter was on antibiotics every other week until I went to the chiro for her ears.
It is a relatively simple procedure with the grommets (I looked into it thoroughly), so I don't think there is a need to stress too much and it's quite common. But with any surgery, especially on a little one that doesn't understand, it's stressful.
You could always ask that they not go ahead with the grommets, and do the osteo thing first to see how it goes, but then again, if it turns out that he really needs then, then you have to go through surgery again.
My osteo is Leone Booth, she works out of OT&P at Wan Chai and Clear Water Bay. Their number is 2824 9112. She is really lovely and gentle and very thorough. She will also explain everything she does and how things work.
Good luck for tomorrow.
