Pram Question

Hi,

We are expecting # 2 very soon. I wanted to ask for advise on which pram would be best for a newborn + 18 month old.

I like the Phil & Ted's Sport - would this be suitable for our needs? Is there a better brand or model?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I am not sure how pram friendly HK is but as a doubles, hands down P&T. we held out because we weren't sure if we wanted to pay so much for a 3rd pram but caved in during a special offer when #2 was 3 months old. Never looked back since, it's a brilliant walking pram for 2 kids of different age. That said, i can;t comment on the newborn position as we went straight to the 2 toddler positioning. The only significant drawback in my opinion is that when it;s really sunny, the kid below is quite exposed so hat and clipping some muslin clothes with clothes pegs by the side helped us.

If you do get it, i highly recommend the rain cover, it fits beautifully and with singapore weather so erratic these days i really find it useful. the handle bar pouch is also really good, fits 2 bottles (one for each kid or maybe one ice coffee for mum, hehe) and the zipped compartment is great for essentials so you don;t have to keep bending down to the basket.

a great way to work out too, my arms have never looked any better!

hope the above helps, it;s not the perfect double pram, like i said pathetic sun shade at the bottom and the weight are minuses but overall a really good pram. looking back, i wished i had bought it to start off with for #1 as i sometimes use it as a single and it;s just as good.

Am currently using the P&T Sport for my 2 year old [11/5kg] and 2 month old [5.5kg] -- love it, love it, love it. It took about 10 days of taking them out in it every other day for the wee one to feel comfortable sleeping in it, but now we go out to the park every morning. That said, I bought it on a trip to HK [while expecting #2], and after the first day just carried #1 on my shoulders when she got tired. Of course, we were staying in LKF, which may be the least pram friendly area...

Living in Beijing, I really like that the infant is relatively concealed from passers-by as I don't feel the need to be stopped by every granny in the park and told that my baby (1) is too small to be outside (2) needs a hat (3) isn't wearing enough clothing (4) will die if he comes into contact with the slightest breeze...

And it's actually much lighter than our previous single pram, so my arms are getting a rest! :)

Don't forget to consider where you live in HK before buying a double pram.

I had 2 small kids, only 14 months apart, living in Mid-Levels west, no car and definitely the double pram wasn't for us since the area is all about going up and down stairs and escalators. We were using one pram + the smaller one in the baby-carrier for going out daily, and my oldest one quickly became a great walker. We had 2 prams when going out somewhere during WE with me and hubby.

I know of several people in HK with kids very closed in age - less than 18 months - or even twins who have preferred to go without any double pram since it is not convenient in most sidewalks and public transportation.

So first consider where you live, where you will daily go for a walk, whether you have a car, and the overall weight. I am working full time and the idea of my tiny helper pushing a double pram of approx. 10 Kgs + 1 6 kg baby + 1 12 kg baby just didn't sound like it was gonna work ! Even I of a 'stronger' built really wasn't feeling comfortable about it !

Thank you for your feedback - ok, looks like Phil & Ted's it is. Now I just have to decide on the colour :)

*We have the Macalaren (single seater) already. Not sure whether to keep hold of this for days that I don't have both babies with me or not.

Definitely the best for two at this age. Ours are also 18 months apart and the P&T Sport works great. It is a mite large but smaller than two strollers and much less wid ethan a traditional double.

Note, though, that if you don't walk far and much, or if the area is not stroller friendly, the P&T is overkill. You're better off carrying the younger kid in a BB and later a backpack, and using the Mac.

Definitely keep the Mac around. We use both quite a bit.

Thanks - I think we will keep the Maclaren as well then.

don't throw out your maclaren! for some places it'll be easier to put tot in it and wear baby in a carrier.

ok - I'll keep it (it's very light and easy) and we'll buy the P & T Sport.

Big decision on colour now :)
