We suggest you get your passport renewed ASAP (have you spoken to the Consulate Offices here and informed them you will be married and therefore due to the new visa and your new residency, you will want a new passport?) otherwise you will waste money getting the visa on a short term document....once granted your dependent visa will run the same length of time as your husband to be's visa so ....make sure his is for a decent tenure as well BEFORE you apply for dependent status. If you are currently a visitor in HK under a British Passport you will be typically on a 6 month visitor visa....this means you CANNOT work on this visa....by comparison ONCE you receive your dependent visa you can work WITHOUT further authorization for one or MORE employers...
