Hi, I am also trying to lose some weight !
I read up and found that drinking green tea 3-4 cups daily will help.
Plus healthy eating and exercise.
I am trying to do skipping at home, as is a good and simple exercise.
Hope this helps.

Exercise - I take a kickboxing class twice a week and lost weight without trying. Indoor cyclnig is also supposed to be a great fat burner. They're more intense than a simple run. Also, munch on raw vegetables during the day, that also gives you more energy from the nutrients. I also eat a lot of air-popped popcorn, it has practically no calories.
If you are really committed, try ediets.com - it's about US$15 a month but it provides a huge list of meals to choose from and offers great recipes. I promise I don't work there!, but it was successful for me whenever I wanted to go on a proper diet for a few months. Weight Watchers has also saved many, many hot chicks but I've never tried it. My ultimate diet tip is spend some time in a western country, then you're instantly thinner :)

Me too! I have about 25 kilos to lose and I've set out to do it in 5-6 months (all pregnancy weight).
These are the things that are helping. I have lost about 5 kilos in the past month already.
Swimming--I love to swim. It is low-impact and because I have a herniated disc in my lower back I cannot handle a lot of high-impact sports--they cause a lot of pain and damage to my back. Swimming is an excellent cardio exercise that burns more calories than most other activities and works all the muscle groups in your body. But, the way I swim is called lap swimming--I get in the pool and I swim about 2 km every time--I can do that in one hour--I swim different strokes--freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke. Butterfly will strengthen your abs better than crunches and back stroke will give you a firm butt. :0)
The principle of healthy, long-lasting weight loss (not fad diets or starving yourself--because you'll gain it back--and probably more!) is that you have to burn more fat and calories than you consume.
To keep me motivated I go to: http://www.24hourfitness.com/resources/fit_tools/cal_burn.html which is the 24-hour fitness (I think it is called California Fitness in Hong Kong) calorie-burn calculator.
Write down what you eat and what activities you do--keep a journal--this will help you track your progress and keep you motivated. Don't count calories, though! If you start obsessing about calories then it usually leads to nowhere. DO eat the right types of foods. I recently found this FREE site that really gives you so many tips on how to eat, when to eat and what to do for exercise. There are demonstration videos by top trainers like Jillian Michaels (The Biggest Loser- http://www.nbc.com/The_Biggest_Loser/ ) as well.
http://www.nowloss.com/how-to-lose-50-pounds-fast-in-5-months.htm#50-workout
Some of the tips I have found helpful from this site are:
-When you wake up (before you eat breakfast--this will make your body burn fat calories) do a 30-50-minute moderate-to-difficult cardio workout. I do The FIRM workout DVD at my house ( http://www.amazon.com/Firm-Bootcamp-Maximum-Calorie-Burn/dp/B000LSBXF2 )
You can order it online at Amazon.com
-Then I drink about 300 ml of ice-cold green tea (I brew it the night before and refrigerate it)--drinking cold fluid makes your body burn more calories--because it has to bring the fluid up to your body temperature.
-Eat a piece of fruit and drink a glass of water or green tea before every meal.
-Eat 5 smaller meals a day--don't eat anything after 8 pm
-Eat slowly--chew your food 8-12 chews before every swallow
-No fried foods.
-In the evening do another 30-50 minute workout--go ride a bike, do pilates, go for a walk, go swimming--get your heart-rate up. There is another video I really like called Belly Dance for Weightloss ( http://www.amazon.com/Bellydance-Fitness-Weight-featuring-Cardio/dp/B00007AJEK )
To keep it up, every time you lose 2-4 kilos, change your routine--if you don't , your body will adjust and your metabolism will level off so you will stop losing weight. You have to sort of "shock your body" every once in awhile to keep losing weight.
-Do interval training or plyometrics--this also "shocks" your body. For example, if you're jogging at a steady pace, every few minutes sprint for a minute or two---then go back down to your regular pace. This jolts your metabolism and makes your body burn calories and fat faster.
So, those are some of the principles I have found are really working. If you want to be my "weight loss" buddy, that would be cool. I'm not sure you need to lose as much as me but I sure would love to encourage you along the way. I am also a stay-at-home-mom! :0)
Don't sit for more than 4 hours every day.
Eat much more vegetables, lean protein and complex carbohydrates (whole wheat bread, brown rice etc.) AND totally eliminate fruit juice, soda (even diet soda--it is worse for your body!) and coffee
Get a pedometer and wear it (it counts your steps)--walk 10,000 steps a day (it's not as hard as it sounds)
Eat or drink low-fat dairy products like cheese, milk or cottage cheese
Cut out refined foods from your diet
And CHEAT--one day a week, let yourself do something that is "bad"--if you like ice cream, eat it--if it's chips, get some--this will keep you more motivated for the long-run.

Hi Ladies, I was a little on the chubby side a few years back, travelled a lot, eat a lot and drank a lot (no excuses, just too much indulgence and too little exercise) - and then a friend introduced me to the following:
95% of my carbs come from vegetables - i eat all the potatoes, pumpkin, chips etc that I want (love my chips!) and always make sure I have spinach or something green every day, and I sip a cup of hot water every hour, on the hour (the best thing keep you system free of toxins) and I also, once every 8 weeks or so, have a colonic irigation - you can easily lose 2 cm off your body by having regular colonics - my personal trainer tried to talk me into having one 5 years ago, and it took me two years to pluck up the courage to do it, and I have never looked back. Through a combination of all of the above, I have maintained my perfect body weight for 3 years - and I don't specifically exercise (although i walk instead of catching taxis etc). And I did say 95% of the time, the other 5 %, I have whatever I want - and I never really could give up alcohol (still have at least one glass of wine every few days).
I haven't been in Hong Kong that long and i am still looking for a colonic place here, so if anyone knows of a place they would recommend, then please let me know the details. If you have always wanted to try a colonic, and have been too scared to (trust me I was) then please feel free to pm me and i can walk you through the process from a lay-person's view.

dcnoble--that plan doesn't work for everyone, though. For example, I can't run, actually--I have some severe back problems. In HK it is also hard to find good places to run--where I'm from there are lots of open spaces and safe places to run--not in HK. My budget doesn't allow me to join a gym here as well so I can't run at the gym. Also, I have a 1-year-old that I take care of by myself all day long, all week long--so a lot of the time I can't leave the house because he needs to take a nap, eat his food (and HK restaurants don't have high chairs)--so sometimes buying a DVD is the answer or coming up with a different plan--because it gives you something to do when you can't get out to run--or if you physically can't do it. Also we need to take into account different people's metabolisms and also other health conditions--so not making things "complicated" but giving lots of options is the way to help people--not everyone is going to eat fruit and salad and be okay--but there are many ways to accomplish one's goal if one wants to and I agree with onlymine that getting the toxins out of your body and getting the fruits and veggies in is key.

you guys heard of the 'lemonade diet' ???? u think its worth a try ??? i know it'll be a fast weight loss and some would be gained back but i think if u really want you can maintain that weight ... although 5-10lbs gained back would be normal.
its actualy a cleanse for the whole body, i've read the book and i'm very tempted to try it out....if anyone else has tried it or would like to try do let me know so we can do it together and support eachother.

Hi All,
Just out of curiosity wondering how many of you actually did achieve your targeted weight loss by Christmas ...
I think most of the advice out there is sort of well-known and some common sense. I went so far as to buy a Kettler cross-trainer even though I live in HK close to a number of clubs. I have the gym ball, weights, yoga mat and everything else at home including a range of FIRM and other videos, including dance, yoga DVDs etc. However, motivation is my problem and wonder what you guys do to get you going and sticking to a healthy eating/exercise plan, especially during this holiday period.
After achieving huge success on Atkins and other diets, I tend to fall off the wagon easily once I achieve my goal weight and have finally decided to stick to the best advice I ever had, not to distiguish one's diet from one's lifestyle, that is, it should be a lifestyle choice, not just a quickie fixer.
Anybody looking for a weight-loss buddy and want some healthy competition can contact me ... I'm 164cm and 64k ... want to lose 6k in a sensible amount of time.
