Hi, I'm on home leave now and am planning to buy a coffee machine before returning to HK. Does anyone know if the capsules for Dolce Gusto are available in HK, and where?
They look like: https://www.dolce-gusto.co.uk/UK/Pages/default.aspx
Many thanks.

There is a Nespresso shop in the IFC mall, but I have not seen Dolce Gusto yet.
You can leave your email address on the website to be notified of its availability in HK if and when.

check the nespresso hk website, think that one is only available in uk/europe.

I'll chime in and say that it is not available here.
You can, however, get a Nespresso machine in HK. This is not quite the same as Nescafe, but since Nescafe and Nespresso are both owned by Nestle there is probably some relationship. The capsule system seems to be based on the same principles. There are shops in IFC Mall and in Elements Mall.
I would also recommend buying a machine locally for warranty purposes. If your UK machine breaks you'll have to get it back there to get it serviced.

thanks - at current exchange rates, machines in HK cost 3x more. here's a business opportunity if anyone's looking for one: parallel nespresso imports

i just got a Dolce Gusto myself in holand and i have one nespresso here in hk
The size of the capsule is not the same and even the whole working principle is based on another expresso technique. With the Gusto you can make milk out of a capsule for example....

Nespresso has a new shop in IFC, so much bigger! They also do other varieties of coffee capsules eg, flat ones (not sure this is helping)! These are new so go in and take a look they maybe what you are looking for.

The flat capsules are for the office machines, which are designed for bigger throughput. Nespresso has always had them but they haven't been displayed in the store.

Flat ones just an eg. they had others. Worth OP talking with them anyway you never know they may have them or know a man that does!

There are now Dolce Gusto machines and capsules in a big display at Jason's Marketplace (upscale version of Wellcome) in Repulse Bay.

Sell the machines and capsules in GREAT in Pacific Place as well.

Why would anyone want to buy a coffee machine with those capsules? They are very expensive and you don't have choice in the coffee that you use in the machine.

There are several factors.
- Consistency of quality. Unless you really know what you are doing with storage, grinding and espresso maker, the flavor will vary and also deteriorate as the open container "ages". A capsule, on the other hand, is sealed until you make the coffee, ensuring consistent flavor. A good barista can do better, but he/she has a professional machine, high throughput and lots of practice to compensate for quality and environmental variations.
- Ease of use. A Nespresso machine takes 30 seconds to learn how to use and will as mentioned produce the same result everytime. A "real" espresso maker is typically much more finicky.
- Convenience.
- Lack of mess from stray grounds.
As for choice, Nespresso makes about 12-15 varieties. Ok, so you can't have every grind in the world, but for us at least that's not a problem.

Not that rocket sciences as you said these days if you use Mypressi which allows you to choose any coffee from any roaster worldwide. Definitely better than Nespresso for sure which is a remnant of good espresso, IMHO. Price competitive too, Mypressi in HK is around HK$1,500. The problem that I see it is visual pleasure as Nespresso machine was well designed in that sense. Plus a Clooney to boot too. :)
