The botanical garden isn't really within walking distance, not an everyday thing I suppose. Unfortunately no decent parks there but maybe you'll find a quiet corner or two.

If you live in Midlevels your walking opportunities are typically rather limited. If nothing else the slopes tend to be vicious. It depends on the exact area of course but when I think "family friendly" I don't typically include Midlevels. It's safe and all that but it is urban jungle and in my mind more typically associated with people who don't have kids.
My suggestion is that you go there and walk around a bit. If you want somewhere where your wife can walk around, you really need to make that a priority when apartment hunting. We did, getting out of the realtor's car and slogging it at each location for 10-15 minutes. Things look very different from ground level. We found that the South Side communities are much better for walking, as well as Parkview (although that feels a bit isolated) and Bel-Air.

If near the escalator on Robinson Road, then HK Botanical Gardens is within walking distance. The kid's playground is at the back of the park, and so it is a mostly flat walk from Robinson Road (10 mins with stroller). Tons of young kids play and meet up there every day, and as they get older usually go and visit the animals.
Another 10 mins walk past the HK Botanical Gardens will bring you to HK Park. The kid's playground is also at the backside off of Kennedy Road. Another very popular park for young kids living in the mid-levels.
Bowen Path is a 5 km? green walking/ running path starting at Bowen Road and traversing above Kennedy Road. It is almost 100% flat, and there is a small playground at the beginning. Tons of singles, kids, families use this path on a daily basis.

We live on Robinson Road, near the escalator, with a baby. It is a bit of an urban jungle here but you will find ways to walk around and even walk into Central - with a stroller. There are loads of families with babies here, I found it very easy to meet other young mothers, especially if you're open to a chat in your building or in the shops in the street. If your wife joins some classes for mothers and babies she will definitely meet many more young (expat) mothers who live in Central and around. There are loads of things to do: Annerley mother and baby group, Pekip, Kindermusic, PandaJunction, Baby Buddies, things organised by AWA, YWCA and Matilda Hospital - just to name of few of many, many activities. Try to search under the Parenting section of this website and you'll find many more ideas.
All ltxhk suggested is also good - we especially like Bowen Road. (Not easy to walk to though, we usually take a taxi, 5 mins, and start our walk there.) She could also take a taxi to the Peak and walk around there, it's lovely up there. We are moving house to another part of town but I still think that Robinson Road is a good place to live, especially if you are new in town because it is so close to everthing and it is easy to get taxis. If you're still in HK after a year or two, you could always move to a more baby friendly part of town then, which is what a lot of people do after a few years. Good luck with the move!
