Baby uninterrupted sleep zzzz

My baby boy is 15 months old. We put him to sleep at about 8pm every evening and normally fully awake at about 7am.

My wife has the habit of checking on him and changing his diapers or clothes (when his clothes are wet) before we go to sleep around midnight, but I not sure if this is good for him in the long run. She is gentle of course but I think she interrupts his sleep when she changes him and he doesn't get a full good night sleep.

The baby doesn't wake most of the time but he does fidget so, to me, this shows that his sleep is being disturbed. I 'think' this isn't good for him.

I see her point of view, that his clothes are wet, and we do have the air con on most nights for him so he might get sick. But my kid is quite healthy and strong, getting sick from wet clothes doesn't seem worth his sleep ...

I've noticed he seems to be tired in the mornings but I don't know if I'm being oversensitive. Without a good uninterrupted sleep, my child could have concentration problems? Not sure....

Anybody can give any advice?

If my baby or child has wet clothes from a leaking nappy then I would definitely change the clothes. If it's just a bit damp and it's not directly on his skin, then I would leave it. I'm sure you would like to sleep through the night with wet clothes. Besides which, if your child has wet clothes and the air con is on, then chances are he will get a chill and wake up of his own accord anyway.

If he doesn't wake up during the change of clothes then the sleep isn't really being interrupted. However I would not be changing his nappy unless there is a poo. If they can go through the night without leaking then let sleeping babies lie.

11 hours is a fantastic sleep for your little one, so I don't think there is an issue. My child wakes up full of beans each morning but her cousin wakes up like a bear with sore head and they could both have had the same amount of sleep. Maybe that is just the way he wakes up.

Long and short of it, change the clothes is they are wet or if he has done a poo, if not let him sleep.

better to change a wet nappy with minimum disturbance, than be woken a little while later by a screaming baby that is uncomfortable due to wet clothes. You really can't leave a baby in wet clothes all night.

Even better compromise: smear the baby's bottom with vaseline and use the next size diaper/nappy for night, then don't change. Extra big diaper -- no wet clothes, no interrupted sleep, no argument.

Sorry guys, my bad, the baby is not soaking wet, of course I wouldn't leave my baby (or any other) sleeping in soaking wet dripping bath like conditions. When I say he's wet, just like it is a little humid. Already the air con is on and the room is at a comfortable temperature. Just that my wife believes needs to change him when he is in the state I just described.

The point is his deep sleep not being too ... deep zzzzz

>Z, that's a new one to me. Why smear the baby bot with vaseline? What does that do?

Vaseline acts as a barrier and protects the bum from humid diaper, meaning less tendency to rashes. Vaseline is ok but Balmex is better. Pity you can't find it in HK. It is the best diaper cream we've found.

at 15 months you dont really need to change the nappy at night anymore -unless it is soaking wet of course - so leave him be till the morning. And yes switch to bigger absorbency nappies - night time ones. We noticed that the brands made locally for some reason are not as good when it comes to absorbency over long time as the ones made overseas. I buy UK made Pampers in B2B and only use them for the night as they are quite a bit more epxensive.

Agreed with Idsllvn on the diapers. And go with something full thickness, not "extra slim". The best model is Huggies Overnites, which is near impossible to find in HK.
