I have some visitors from the US coming to at the end of this month. While they are here, they'd like to get some suits made, but they are only here for 4 1/2 days.
Anyone have any recommendations for tailors? Looking for reasonably priced (cheaper is better), but good quality and (obviously) fast service.
Is it worth paying for their visas to go to Shenzhen to get the suits made?
What are the prices in Shenzhen compared to Hong Kong tailors?
Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated! Price quotes would be helpful as well! Thanks!

Thanks for the advice! Anyone out there know where in HK is a good/cheap/fast place to go? Someone told me TST, but where in TST? Can anyone recommend some shops?

those guys are great, I get mine done in their IFC branch, service is excellent and they get it done quickly, you can get cheaper prices if you visit the outlets not located in marquee central buildings

I have had friends have mens suits made in Shenzhen and been very pleased with the results. It does depend on who you use so get a recommendation first. 4 days should be ok for timing. My understanding is that it is a lot cheaper up there than in HK but do need to factor in the price of the visa. Agree with goofie in that it is difficult to get alterations made when you get it done in Shenzhen but disagree that all tailors up there do a shoddy job.

Agree with all NZlawyergirl has said. Tailors we use in Shenzhen do a wonderful job.
If your friends are only here 4 days would suggest staying in HK and can recommend the tailor we use sometimes . It is 'British Tailors" and they are in the Mall entrance to the Holiday Inn Golden Mile on Nathan Road. Should be able to do it for your friends with at least one fitting in the time they are here.

Can anyone give me some price quotes for getting a suit made? Quality is important, but so is efficiency and cost!

Certainly depends on chosen fabric. "British Tailors" charge on average $3,000 to $3,500 for good quality lightweight wool.
Shenzhen tailors will charge between $1,200 upwards, then you have to factor in the cost of the visa and train costs as well as considering that you really should try on before collecting the finished article so that means going to Shenzhen a second time.
For those with more time on their hands or people living in HK Shenzhen is an option but not when time is short for visitors.

I hear there is a good tailor in IFC. Can someone tell me exactly where it is? I have a few jeans and dresses I need hemmed.

Sounds like Tai Pan Row. Shop 3015, 3rd floor above the Airport Express. They also have a shop in the Galleria on QRC.

There is no such thing as good quality and fast service. There are a few tailor shops in HK that offer fairly decent quality but the vast majority are fused suits made for the masses.
I can tell you that the best quality work in HK is from WW.Chan who are located on Nathan Rd in the Burlington Arcade (most HK expats don't know this place)
try to stick to Shanghainese Tailors if you can and avoid any tailor that needs to have touts on the street

I've got a tailor who comes to Central from Shenzhen and makes my suits. I've had a few made from Hk based ones like Jims, and I must say the quality from this guy is just as good, and the service is better (as in, in my office). Considerably cheaper as well I must say - had 2 suits, 5 shirts, 1 very nice casual jacket, and 4 casual shirts to my own designs really. PM me if you want his number as he's here 3 times a week.
