UPDATES - AsiaXPAT OF THE YEAR

ORIGINAL POST

AsiaXPAT, launched in 1999, has grown into a community of 500,000 expats and local professionals and executives in Asia. Within this diverse audience are many outstanding individuals who contribute in many ways to their communities.

The inaugural Hong Kong AsiaXPAT of the Year 2009 Award was conceived as a way to recognise achievements of individuals living in Hong Kong and at the same time, to support the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation.

If you know of a worthy nominee, want to purchase tickets (a number of tables are already sold and we are limited to about 500 people) or would like to sponsor this prestigious event, please click here

Does anyone know the name of the organization that is run by a former banker that opens schools for the needy in the region - I seem to recall an article on him doing something in remote Nepal.

You can make anonymous nominations here http://www.asiaxpat.com/promos/person-of-the-year/

Please note - the nominee does NOT have to be an expat - anyone over the age of 18 who resides in HK is eligible.

I nominate Digital Blonde

Anyone who hates Hello magazine so vehemently deserves it - let the guy who promotes reading in Nepal wait till next year.

Unfortunately most posts on the forums, although definitely a community service, would likely not get recognition from the judges :)

I'd like to nominate Mr. Allan Zeman the best Canadian/Chinese expat in HK! What would expats due without LKF?

First we take Manhatten - then we take Berlin...

Well no, actually the finalists would all need to be flown in and provided with accommodation - rather than use the funds raised to pay for this substantial expense (unlike many charity events in HK and around the world, most of the cash raised from this event will actually go to the charity...) so we thought we'd focus on HK for now.

The auction and lucky draw prize list is building to epic proportions (well over 100 awesome donations in so far)

Might I tantalize you with the opportunity to win some nights at Aman Resorts in Siem Reap?

Hot off the press - our good friends at Matilda Hospital have just agreed to contribute 2 Executive Health Checkups http://www.matilda.org/eng/service/EHA/EHA.php (ooooh... I'm almost afraid to win this prize given that I live on a diet of Molson most days ....)

Stay tune for more superb prizes as we reach out for MORE!

And if you might want to get your company involved get in touch - we'll take anything from a dinner for 2 to a new Mercedes Benz... nothing is to small or too grand for our Black Tie Ball!!!

Update on progress:

The majority of the tables have been reserved so there about 10 left. If you are keen to attend what will be an assume night I suggest you book asap (we will be sending out an email to our members soon focused on tickets and we expect most will go... so get in asap).

Judges are almost all confirmed now - Tony Tyler CX is on - Al Zeman is also confirmed - May Wong TV presenter is also on (Obama's people were in touch but we told them perhaps we could get him in next year.... )

The prizes are too numerous and too valuable to mention here - but they are most excellent.

Nominations are heating up - lots of environmentalists have been put forward - lets figure out some other categories for nominees... I was thinking the people at Crossroads do some awesome work - does anyone know who the key person is who drives this awesome charity? http://www.crossroads.org.hk/

Feel free to post on this thread and/or here http://www.asiaxpat.com/promos/person-of-the-year/

Also does anyone know of worthy individuals involved with these or other charities http://hongkong.asiaxpat.com/directory/expat-associations-general-info/volunteer-charity/

Not sure which is a tougher task - choosing the 4 people for the New Faces of AsiaXPAT from over 300 - or choosing the AsiaXPAT of the Year - there are a lot of people doing selfless things in HK without any recognition - and that's true giving - doing without expectation...

The latest submission is for John Laroche. Accomplishments: John coaches in the Typhoons ice hockey league, coordiinates their website, secures sponsorship and generally puts in way too much time into making the league a resounding success.

If you know anyone who gives their time or contributes in anyway to make Hong Kong a better place please give them the recognition they deserve!

And on top of that the winner will get some nights at the luxurious Sukhothai Hotel in Bangkok.

Latest nomination is:

Accomplishments: Ms Siao Fong Fong, MBE has been a film actress in her early childhood. In 1998 she obtained an M.A. degree in Child Psychology and worked as a Psychologist / counselor at the Queen Mary Hospital for 4 years. That's what makes this so exciting - will the winner come out of nowhere... an underdog... an unheard of... or will it be the Molson drinking Ed (if someone were to nominate yours truly) ... who knows... it all lies in the hands of the judges... a better panel one could not find anywhere - so eminent are they to be almost... intimidating... http://www.asiaxpat.com/promos/person-of-the-year/

The winner cannot pick their prize because the prize is recognition + a stay at the uber superb Sukhothai Hotel (heck thats almost worth rushing out to volunteer to do something - anything - worthy of a nomination...)
