I have acquaintance friends coming here the end of the month for 3 days. They require a hotel close to MTR, and such. I have no idea where to even start looking, as I have never needed one. Nothing over the top expensive.

I know of a number of shared flats on Hong Kong Island (mostly in Mid Levels), min stay is 7 nights though. A bit like homestay without the meals or serviced appartments but costing half. Send me a private message if interested.

Ibis North Point is pretty basic, but clean and with decent views. Very affordable and 50 meters from the MTR.

Definitely check out Hotel JEN in western district http://www.hoteljen.com/ I put my brothers family up there in the summer and they were very pleased.
