have a look on this forum - a lot of leads - but Intercontinental is amazing, sadly not near any shops of markets - but there are a number of restaurants just a short walk away on the beach

The Westin Nusa Dua - we went last summer and my son has not stopped talking about it yet. Near to a shopping complex which is a bit like Discovery Bay and also near to some local markets too.

We'll be going to Bali this summer as well--with 2 kids and my parents. We would like to stay near the Seminyak/Legian area. Can anyone recommend a popular, preferrably newly renovated hotel in that area? Our budget is USD180 per night. Also, what are the attractions that we must not miss.

Thanks.

You can request best rates and offers here http://hongkong.asiaxpat.com/travel/destinations/bali/

I dont know of any hotels that have a lot of activities for kids in those areas - you might be better off to skip over to Sanur (avoid the summer traffic of Seminyak!) and check out the hotels along the beach. Grand Hyatt has a lot of stuff for the kids and lots of space

Another option you should look at is Le Meridien, they have water slides, and lots of other kids activities happening... its right next to Tanah Lot temple about 15 minutes from Seminyak (you are coming from the west so traffic is minimal). Have not seen the rooms but its a Meridien hotel so should be good

Thanks Ed! We like the Le meridian but is it true that it takes about 45-min taxi ride from the Le Meridian to Seminyak and about an hour to the airport? We don't want to stay and eat at the hotel during the entire stay and certainly don't want to spend too much on taxi fares either. We want to do some shopping, dining and plenty of sightseeing. Isn't Seminyak a better location then?

I dont think its 45 mins to Seminyak... my recollection (and dont trust that because its clouded by many years of Molson) was that it was about 20 minutes from Jalan Oberoi.

Seminyak is about 30 mins from the airport if traffic is not too bad so for sure you are pushing close to one hour to tanah lot.

Check the hotel site - it might have info on proximity of the airport etc...

A mate of mine is in Italy for July and is renting his two bedroom villa in a superb location for USD249/night http://www.relaxedvillas.com/ Just finished renovations before he left.
